Wiki Wednesdays: Wharton and Columbia Business School Interviews

Welcome to this week’s peek at the Clear Admit Wiki, an online repository for MBA applicants to share their experiences with the admissions process.  While Chicago Booth’s Rose Martinelli has offered some Round 2 reflections and Stanford GSB encouraged Round 3 applications, some candidates are still busy interviewing for a Round 2 or Round 3 slot in the Class of 2011.  Let’s take a closer look at some recent interviews at Wharton and Columbia Business School.

A Round 3 candidate for Wharton shared these rather unorthodox interview questions from a second-year student:

  1. Pop quiz, hot shot. What do you do? What do you do?
  2. If you were allowed to select the members of your Learning Team, which characters from LOST would you choose and why?
  3. Please describe a team project that you executed flawlessly.
  4. Can you quantify the volume of tequila you can consume prior to making a professional presentation about the role of microfinance in the developing world? Here is a bottle; here is a glass. Ready? Go!
  5. How long do you think it would take you to roller skate across Penn’s campus? Here is a pair of skates. I’ll be timing you.

A Columbia applicant recently faced the following queries from an admissions committee member:

  1. What other schools have you applied to?
  2. If you were on the Apprentice, how would you avoid being fired?
  3. What other schools have you applied to?
  4. What were your extracurricular activities in kindergarten?
  5. Who’s better – Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera?  Our admissions direction has a strong opinion on this, so we’re going to be using it as a sort of ‘tie-breaker’ this admissions cycle.  Your answer?
  6. What other schools have you applied to?

That wraps up Wiki Wednesdays this week!  Be sure to stop back to check out some snippets of the latest contributions to the Clear Admit Wiki.  As always, we’d like to thank everyone for sharing their personal experience with the MBA admissions process!   If you’d like to share your interview experience, a reflection on school choices or an account of a campus visit, simply create an account or e-mail your content to
