The following Cornell / Johnson MBA interview report was submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 3 applicant. Good luck to them!

I was invited to attend the Johnson LEAD Event, which was a two-day leadership and team-building event/interview. It was an excellent opportunity to meet my potential future classmates, engage with current students and faculty, and talk with administration about opportunities at Johnson.

By the end of the second day, I had my interview with a second-year student. The interview was predictable and short, but I was prepared with multiple questions (many of which I had developed from prior conversations with students and administrators over the past two days). The interview was very conversational and my interviewer (a second-year student) used my résumé to fuel the conversation but allowed me to expand upon my résumé.

My interviewer asked the following questions:

– Why MBA?
– Why transition from my current career?
– What were some of my transferable skills and experiences?
– Why Johnson?
– Talk about a time that I solved a problem. How did I arrive at my solution?
– What was one of my biggest weaknesses?
– In what careers or industries did I see myself working?
– What would I do if there were no available jobs in my desired career or industry?

I was surprised by the short duration of the initial interview. Luckily, my interviewer seemed very engaging and willing to discuss his experiences at Johnson, particularly the immersions and leadership-building activities. I was not surprised that he was willing to discuss these opportunities with me and that he seemed genuinely interested in talking to me about what he enjoyed and how he grew. Johnson students seemed bright, ambitious, collaborative, and deeply engaged, based on my conversations with current students throughout the Lead Event experience.

Johnson became one of my top choices after this two-day experience because of the strong fit for me as a MBA student who is intellectually curious, collaborative and friendly, and motivated to benefit from the Johnson resources and classmates.
