Every Wednesday, we share a round-up of the latest news from admissions blogs at the top business schools. This week’s MBA Admissions Mashup features many reasons for why admissions teams are thankful this season as well as some handy admissions tips to help you prep for Round 2.
But first, we hope you had a great, relaxing Thanksgiving. Now is the time to keep your fingers crossed and/or come up with a game plan for the next month as you prepare your Round 2 applications. At Dartmouth / Tuck, the admissions team shared a few things that they’re thankful for this year: “Thank you for the time you spend reflecting, shaping your story, refining your goals, and getting to know Tuck. Thank you for your thoughtful questions and kind words. Without wonderful applicants, who turn into wonderful students and wonderful alumni, these jobs we love would be meaningless.”
Michigan / Ross Admissions Director Soojin Kwon shared 10 things that she’s thankful for this season. In addition to pumpkin pie and the snow in Ann Arbor, she’s thankful for “the biggest Round 1 app volume since 2002. We weren’t expecting another increase after our banner year last year” in addition to “Meeting a record number of Round 1 interviewees who came to campus for their interviews and team exercise. We were thrilled that so many applicants chose to check out Ann Arbor and meet potential future classmates.”
Speaking of the Ross’ team exercise, Kwon also posted a video this morning on more details on what to expect. She notes that it isn’t quite a group interview, but rather that “you and each member of your group will be observed by one or more evaluators to see how you communicate and interact while working on a timed, shared task.” Visit her blog to check out the posted video.
Georgetown / McDonough shared a quick and easy infographic on how to prepare your resume for the MBA application. They recognize that all their applicants are quite accomplished at this stage in their careers and that “it’s hard to summarize your story into one page.”
If you’ve started your application for Duke / Fuqua (R2 deadline is January 5, 2016), you may have noticed the unique essay topic where the adcom asks you to list 25 interesting facts about yourself. That’s a lot, but there’s a reason behind it and the Fuqua admissions team provided some insight on how you might approach this portion of the application. They want to “get to know you beyond the basic test scores and resume, and the essays help achieve this. As an applicant, the topic can be a refreshing break from more traditional application essays, so give it your best effort, but above all—just have fun with it!”
That’s all for this week! Join us next week for the latest edition of MBA Admissions Mashup.
