My background is in Industrial Engineering and Operations at a large well known state school. My current work experience is 3 years in M&A consulting, specializing in integrating companies acquired by PE funds into platforms, realizing synergies, and doing operational diligence of potential acquisitions. Short term, I would like to pivot into finance to support more of the finances required to find and source deals. Long term- I would like to become an operator for PE Funds or search funds. I also spend my time volunteering via grant writing for small non-profits and on an associate board for at-risk youth.

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1736 Investment banking sounds like a good short term goal, in this case? Makes sense to concentrate your targets on US based programs, if you plan to be in the US, post MBA. Are you spreading your applications over the first two rounds?

Likes Earned: 1392 Given your exposure to M&A and PE, perhaps you could pivot right into the field - but have you had some informational interviews with PE professionals to verify this? The reason I ask is because - as Alex points out - it can be hard to transition from consulting directly into PE, especially without a finance major from undergraduate...

Beyond that detail, I think your counting stats will play well, your list of target schools makes a lot of sense, and your outside activity (volunteer grant writing) sounds terrific. Best of luck!
