Need some advise here. I got into four great schools and I am currently leaning heavily toward Yale SOM. They have a dual degree program with Asset Management which I can apply as a first year MBA student. I am also currently waitlisted at MIT Sloan. What are my chances of getting off the waitlist? And would Sloan be a better school?

Yes, you have four great schools that can help you achieve your career goals. In addition, Yale SOM is a great option for asset management jobs. While MIT Sloan has a higher overall rank, Yale SOM has similar asset management placement stats when compared to MIT Sloan. You can see this in this article on Buy Side career placements. eliot Verified User. Likes Earned: 1903 Typically there are a small number of slots available due to 'summer melt'. Meaning, a few people who put down deposits in the Spring don't show up at school in August. Thus, schools then go to their waitlist at the last minute to fill a few slots. So, my advice to you is to reaffirm your interest in the program and hope that you get one of these calls in mid-summer. Best of luck. (0)

firstgenmba Likes Earned: 6 I disagree with the above. Until last year, buyside salaries at SOM were comparable to those at programs ranked in the 15–25 range. MSAM should, in theory, alleviate some of that disparity, but SOM as a whole does not have the same history and quality of placements as Sloan. I think your decision should be based on how heavily you want to recruit in AM/HF. If you are really set on that, then NYU’s FinMath/MBA is probably the best combination outside of Sloan – but that is a more competitive program (with an admit rate of less than 10%). Thinking out loud, an MBA may not even be the optimal degree here depending on your background (e.g., MIT/Princeton MFIN, graduate CS/Math, etc.). (2)

anon10646 Likes Earned: 783 OP profile would be useful in that view. If they've been out of UG for longer than a few years, and either weren't already in research driven financial svs or no CS/coding experience, then MFin and grad CS/Math may be too much of a gap. MFin-only route they may be older/over-experienced for many of those recruiting channels, if they're not looking for trading/quant-focus then CS would be over-kill. Institutional management, family office, FoFs etc then MBA should suffice. (1)
