Hi All,
I have my admit deferred from GTU (was admitted in 2018) and have been accepted to Darden EA round. No scholarships at both. Have interviewed at Johnson, UNC and Kelley too. I recently got a new job (good salary say 6 figures) and I am 30 right now(age at graduation 32). Does it make sense to get my MBA? Any advice is appreciated.

anon24028 Verified User. Likes Earned: 8 What are your long-term goals? What do you want out of an MBA program? It sounds like you have a good job--are you content with that? Will there be opportunities for growth/promotions you will miss out on without the MBA credential? I will say that this is probably the last year (if only in terms of age) you would be assured of your fit at a full-time MBA program. It also doesn't sound like you're at a natural breaking point to pause your career for an MBA; but then again, you could get right back into the swing of things after graduation. I encourage you to reflect on why you still want an MBA; it will still be an enriching experience, but it sounds like you've found success without it. (0)

Financially, it might not make a lot of sense right now but I still believe it will be an enriching & transformative experience. The biggest worry I have is if I do not like my new job after 2 years, then I will not have an option of going to a full-time MBA program. (0)

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1576 Darden is a great option, well done. I'd agree, try to think long term. In 10-15 years, what do you want to be doing. Which path will reduce the risks of you not getting there. Will the addition of a bschool network be advantageous, etc Might want to let Georgetown know your no longer pursuing an MBA there, if that is now the case. (0)

anon10660 Likes Earned: 292 Thank you so much for your response. I will let Georgetown know for sure. Regarding my goals, I am still a bit unclear on them. I am certain that I will not be recruiting for Consulting or Banking as I have a family and the working hours for me might not be the best. I currently work in a health tech startup and want to stay in healthcare/biotech/pharma but move into general management.(maybe marketing or strategy). Do you guys think its worth it for these positions to go to a b-school? Most people I hear say that it might not be worth it if you don't want to go to Consulting or IB. Any thoughts? (0)

If you remove consulting and finance from the equation (and increasingly, tech) you are not seeking the careers the elite MBA programs best set you up for. Take a hard look at your industry. Look at the leaders. How did they get there? (0)

anon17908 Likes Earned: 2 In a similar position as you - EA to Fuqua and 6 figure salary. Plan is healthcare tech startup long-term. I am a couple years younger than you, 28 and short-term it might not be worth it, but firmly believe that the long-term benefits will 100% be worth it.
