Hello, friends. My question is not school-specific. The MBA class of 2018 are into the job market right now. Does anyone have an idea of what the job market situation looks like for international students this year? I know Job reports will be released later this year, but some of you guys might have friends who just graduated....the student debt is making me nervous. Thank you.

Anonymous Likes Earned: 0 As a trend across industries, employers are becoming more reluctant to sponsor visas. Thus, international student recruiting has taken a hit. I know many who couldn't find oppurtunities in the "traditional" MBA fields due to sponsorship issues (including the H1 lottery gamble) and are taking technical positions for internships as many of those traditional companies as a policy have started to avoid taking students who need sponsorship in the longer term. You should prepare yourself incase you are not able to land that high paying MBA job. (0)

Anonymous Likes Earned: 0 if student debt is making you nervous, then i will strongly suggest you to reapply next year to m7 schools. schools such as Tuck, Duke and Cornell are disadvantaged due to their location when it comes to networking etc . also an added $$ expense for traveling to big cities for networking events. (0)

$70 roundtrip bus ride Likes Earned: 0 hanover to boston, cornell to nyc. way better than boston/nyc rent imo. amtrak from philly/new haven is comparable and no one turns down wharton because of the location. back to op's question, regarding the debt, interest rates are going up and servicing is going to become less consumer flexible. one analysis i'd do is estimate how much you have to spend at a minimum if you only went to class and did campus recruiting - this means rent, insurance, food, tuition, period. people are gonna say this misses out on the class trips and intangibles of the mba experience but i'd say if your next best alternative is not attending (aka no school), you should factor trips out of the equation and only look at cost of academics. for your return analysis, i'd say instead of MBB or IBD which requires networking $ and you could strike out, model it out with the highest certainty, lowest paying option - i.e. CPG marketing (130k all in but cheap cost of living). I agree with the other poster saying that you should target for m7 schools. Tuck's location will take a toll on you and your pocket - don't take the risk if you can reapply next year. (0)

OP Likes Earned: 0 What M7 schools other than Harvard and Stanford do I have the best chance of landing a job for an international? How would I fare better at MIT or Kellogg? Vs Columbia? Or even Wharton if i manage to get in. (0)

here's the sponsorship rankings Likes Earned: 0 HBS, GSB, Sloan, Haas, Anderson, the last 2 bc you're most likely to get sponsored by a tech company in CA. Following that is every other top 15 school tied with the same chances. yes, that means tuck and stern (ie complete opposites) give you the same chances. if deloitte sponsors, it doesn't matter if you went from duke to the atlanta office or tuck to the boston office. both offices have the same immigration services which is likely the same company microsoft uses. if JP morgan doesn't sponsor, you're screwed even if you won the value investing prize at CBS. CPG/rotation Likes Earned: 0 the second tier ones might not sponsor, but i guarantee you microsoft (and that level of peer companies) does. they've been doing it for 20+ years. I'd know because I came to america after my dad got one... windows 98 product rotation back in the day was the shit (0)
