anon30233 Likes Earned: 18 I think its because the Verbal section is more of test of critical thinking and reasoning ability. Above all, majority don’t speak fluently but still the ones who score high GMAT/GRE speak well. I have a bunch of Indian friends with all above 740. Take it or leave it, Indians have a good aptitude. And thats what makes it tough for them to get to Top Schools without a 740+ (0)

anon67311 Likes Earned: 29 What’s the point of high verbal scores if you cannot string a sentence together, either while speaking or writing? I was talking to an admissions committee member and he said that this problem is why they introduced video essays. They were shocked to find students from India with high verbal scores who couldn’t even comprehend the questions during the interview. (0)

anon30233 Likes Earned: 18 So you mean to say the video essays are just introduced to test for Indians' speaking skills? Whether they are at par with their Verbal scores or not. My thoughts: 1. The video essays tend to make one nervous because it is something (speaking to a camera with a random question) is not something one does in their usual routine. 2. It cannot be just the Indians who mess up the video interviews. 3. MBA is not just about speaking fluent English. Had it been, the admission criteria, curriculum, and the post-MBA careers would have been highly dependent on this one factor. When the market takes a hit, an Investment Banker or a Consultant needs to find the solution, not the best fluent way to communicate to the clients. 4. You need to study harder for your GMAT/GRE so that you show less hatred towards fellow applicants. Good luck. (0)

I said that one of the reasons it was introduced was to filter out people with high verbal scores who cannot string a sentence together, since it is a waste for schools to discover this during an interview.
