anon24801 Likes Earned: 13 Is an explanation really that powerful? I'm curious cause I hear it mentioned a lot and a friend got into an M7 with a low (lower than OP) GPA and 680 (yes, 680) GMAT. His explanation was good, but not above and beyond good. (0)

anon29322 Likes Earned: 29 OP here... I did write an essay about the low GPA. Unfortunately, both my parents died the summer after my freshman year at Georgetown. I went from the deans list as a freshman to just getting by for a couple years, but started to turn around near the end. I though that essay coupled with my 5 years in finance would be enough to catch the eye of adcom, but I was wrong. Still in the running at some other places, so fingers crossed! I meant to write I applied w/o a GMAT score, so if this round doesn't work out I'll work on getting a score before the first round of the next cycle. (1)
