Notes:

Undergrad: went to a large, state university (not top 100). A part of a selective, 40 person honors cohort in the business school. Leadership roles in my sorority, student government, and a campus organization that mentors local school age youth. Majored in finance.
Work experience: graduated UG in May of 2020 and began working as a project controller for a heavy civil contractor for ~10 months. Then hired onto my current org which is a class I rail road. I have been promoted 3 times in the 4.5 years I’ve been on my team, with my responsibilities beginning as a team analyst to now wherein I am a key account manager for $1B+ in annual revenue for steel raw materials transport, overseeing sales and negotiation for large accounts.
Outside of work: avid sand volleyball player :), serve on the board of a women focused volunteer organization, leveraging my sales skills to solicit contributions from major companies in the area. I also serve on the advisory committee of my sorority, working directly with current undergraduates
Why MBA: I want to switch fields into the CPG space, and want to move back to Chicago (where I am from)
Questions: given that I want to switch industry and location, will the adcom find my career goals unlikely ?

Is there a better school to target? Emory is really only on the list since I am local to Atlanta, but I want to end up back in the Midwest.

Lastly, given my non-name brand undergrad institution, do I need to explain why I have a B- in Calc III on my undergraduate transcript? For context, I had an immediate family member pass away that semester. I’d prefer to not mention it, but if it’s a red flag I will.

Thank you! Love the pod :)
