Dartmouth name and the associated prestige is appealing but not sure if that justifies 25 - 35K paying more when COA gap is factored in as well. (0)

Both are great MBA programs that would provide you with opportunities to work in NYC post MBA. Given your goal of doing health care IB in NYC, Stern would give you more opportunities to network for your job. So you face a tradeoff between campus feel/lower COL at Ross vs more access to NYC career opportunities at Stern. If you decide to attend Ross, be sure to allocate time and budget to make trips to NYC to network, using the COL savings as part of your travel budget. (0)

anon10646 Likes Earned: 885 Stern is a better IB program. If there were scholarship difference, I could make a better argument for Ross. Ann Arbor is a great college town, Michigan provides a collegiate setting which I think provides a better experience when you're in a group of ~350 strangers who you have to get familiar with quickly, Michigan is a great healthcare school. However, I think grad school and especially an MBA degree is a business decision. You're there ~20 months, ~3 months you're away at an internship and at least 3 months you'll be jammed with recruiting. If you're going to go IB, you're not going to live near Ann Arbor for post-MBA work, so you'll be moving out by the time you even settle. Stern you're in a city you're very likely to be in for work full-time and despite a HCOL, if you place in IB, you can clear student loans very quickly. At Ross you can still get good IB placements, but the stats display it's a smaller pipeline with less representation across the street (at least MBA-level. Plenty of UMich UGs). Perhaps you're not shooting for Tier1 banks and you want more of a lifestyle bank, then you can get that from Ross. Ann Arbor will have LCOL, but when housing is cheaper you can be tempted to get a bigger place or a complex with more amenities because you can, so costs can creep, while NYC you may be more budget disciplined by necessity. Also, HC IB is primarily BOS / NYC / SF, so if you're at Ross you'll be doing double rent for at least 10-12 weeks during your internship in a HCOL which will have a premium for the short-term length, either dorms or club up with other Ross people doing internships for the summer in an apartment share. If you're not 100% HC IB and maybe want to do a Eli Lilly or Stryker corp type role, then Ross would begin to come more into play. (1)

anon10646 Likes Earned: 885 Personal preference on program as you can see the placement stats in Financial Svs are similar, although Tuck has better medians. That won't matter if you go IB which has (mostly) standardized base $. PF groups at some banks pay lower than IB standard, especially the European and Japanese banks, who as you know make up most of the main PF banks. If you go IB, I'd consider expanding to P&U within Energy Coverage so that you're not just limited to lending banks. I guess the question is do you have reasoning for having an IB stint if you're coming from a renewables developer pre-MBA. Want experience from the lender side/purview? Developer you're at is sponsor-backed who holds pen on the modelling, so you want to build your technical skills? Energy/PF being very technical and specialized, even if you weren't running the model, you should have sufficient technical understanding. Even then you can learn the modelling fairly quickly, but you'd already have understanding on the technology / lingo / working with IE and other consultants / Tax Equity (OBBBA impact etc) / and if your current work is PE-backed then you have experience in that dynamic from the PortCo side which should be valuable. Infra / Energy is a hot industry right now due to AI demand pull and firms need people with experience. Stonepeak, GIP, KKR Infra etc all have MBA associate recruiting now and you probably could get networking traction with MM PE who don't have official MBA recruiting. I'd at least be co-recruiting Infra Funds with IB. (0)

The decision came down to a few things: I am excited to take courses throughout Yale, including at Yale Law School and the School of the Environment; I prefer East Rock to Sachem Village; proximity to NYC for recruiting, and my partner's preference for New Haven over Hanover. Thank you, @anon10646. I would ideally like to recruit directly to the Infra Funds, however I had heard that these funds do not recruit MBA Associates and rather recruit from banks. This is my reason for considering recruiting IB, both out of ignorance and to mitigate risk through structured recruiting. Appreciate you sharing that these funds have MBA Associate recruiting - this is super helpful. I will definitely co-recruit these Infra Funds and hope to go this route directly. (0)
