Have you been working in the business side of sports? Showing impact and growth at work will be important. Your overall profile will be non-traditional, which can be an advantage, but it also puts more emphasis on showing fit, and the “why MBA” component.

Are you also involved in activities outside of work?

shirleh545 Likes Earned: 11 Thank you. I am equally interested in exploring consulting or returning to my family business in sports and scaling the business. Fortunate to have a client for a good recommendation. My current family business responsibilities are very demanding. My only extracurricular is being the treasurer of a non-profit, with around 4 hours per week commitment. I also volunteer for some occasional sport-related events. (1)

shirleh545 Likes Earned: 11 Wow, thank you for including me in your profile review. I would like to add some details about myself and my decision process for this year's application. Hope this will help some other non-traditional applicants in selecting programs: 1. Undergrad major in Accounting, also Minored in Entrepreneurship, and Minered in Political Science. 2. Attended secondary school in Singapore. Lived in Singapore for most of my teenage years before University in the US. 3. Played golf in the same Division 1 NCAA conference (ACC) as Duke, UNC. (I went to one of the academically higher-ranked schools) 4. I am female. Currently deputy GM at age 24. Now living in the Carolinas. Submitted applications to Duke, UNC, Emory, and Vanderbilt last week. (dropped GAtech) Will reattempt GMAT later this month. I evaluated my current situation, and I decided those are the schools that I feel comfortable attending at this stage of my life. I am supporting myself, so a scholarship is very important. If I get a high scholarship to Duke, UNC, or Emory I will go (a maybe for Vanderbilt). If the scholarship is not ideal, I will apply in a later year with a higher GMAT and more work experience to top programs. (0)
