I had my post-graduate education in economics before I started my teaching career at a premier university in India. My academic job is tilted more toward teaching than research, and I taught a variety of papers over these 6.5 years. Over these many years, I became more open and enthusiastic about business school curriculum, pedagogy, and how it prepares future managers. The manager role became more appealing to the potential researcher inside me, and I have decided to shift to B-schools for an MBA.

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1842 What are your post MBA goals? You list several options, but it’s best to have one focused pathway. Have you applied to any of these programs, or are you planning to apply in Round 2? Unfortunately things will be a little harder in Round 2, if you’re an over-represented candidate, by heritage. Being an economics professor is non-traditional, so you’ll really need to focus on fit, how everything makes sense to get the MBA, etc. You’ll also need to narrow your target list of programs, considerably? nk22 Likes Earned: 0 Planning to apply in round 2 or 3, Post-MBA goal is consulting. I'm considering selected programs that are supposedly better at preparing candidates for consulting roles. Could you please suggest something regarding the fit, given my background is non-traditional? Also, should I attempt the GMAT aiming for a score in the higher range (725-35)? I want to know if having a higher GMAT score would make things favorable for me or if my work experience and profile would sail me through with a GRE score of 325. (0)

Round 3 is going to be very difficult for admissions, Round 2 will already be challenging for someone applying from India. What are your post MBA goals, longer term, beyond consulting?
