I'm struggling to choose between MIT Sloan and NYU Stern. Stern has offered me full tuition funding and is well-regarded for investment banking. On the other hand, Sloan also has a strong IB presence with a smaller class size, which could offer a more intimate network. The funding at Stern is a major factor, making the decision even tougher.

anon20569 Likes Earned: 3 Funding at Sloan is 50% with a deficit of $43k per year excluding cost of attendance while there is full tuition funding at Stern. Also, I don’t mind having a long-term career in either New York or Boston as long as I’m doing IB in a great firm. (0)

anon10646 Likes Earned: 876 Boston is going to be a much smaller IB market as most banks would cover from their NYC teams/offices. Recognizable names (more likely to have MBA recruiting) with Boston locations will trend more middle market focused - Raymond James, Harris Williams, William Blair etc - and TMT/HealthTech/Pharma and some A&D/Auto teams. Not sure how much those offices intake juniors or are dealmakers only (general trend over last few years seems to be banks centralizing juniors to main offices and not regional). Also, these banks tend to be less likely to sponsor. There will be plenty of industry specific boutiques, but MBA hiring less reliable and similar sponsorship concerns. NYC is your most likely placement from Sloan or Stern. For outcomes, you're looking at the same general placement as sponsorship requirement is going to focus down list of banks. Sloan may have slightly higher ceiling as it's been a tier higher for longer, but you'll have to research if that's meaningful for Intl's. Stern is going to be a much more structure recruiting process given the larger number of interested students/IB pipeline and this may be useful for someone trying to navigate all the nuances and rules of IB and US recruiting. You'd probably be less likely to completely strike out of IB in such a process due to structure, spreading out of offers, and core seats. You've only noted IB, but value of Sloan given the $ difference will be if you have any ambitions past a couple IB years which you could lay the groundwork for during time at Sloan, such as AM/PE/HF internships during the school year. The tier jump and Sloan's placement advantage in these areas you might begin to justify +$80k cost differential, but for just IB it'd be harder to get value on the extra cost. (5)
