The Herbert School of Business is one of 12 schools and colleges at the University of Miami. The Miami Herbert Business School offers undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and executive education programs. Located in a global hub for international business, the School is widely recognized for its global perspective, student and faculty diversity, and engagement with the business community. In addition to their full-time MBA program, Herbert offers an Accelerated MBA, an Accelerated MBA in Real Estate, a Global Executive MBA, an Executive MBA in Healthcare Management and Policy, a Professional MBA, a One-Year MBA, and an Online Professional MBA. Admissions
Admissions Procedures
The Miami Full-Time Admission Committee assesses each candidate on a number of dimensions including academic performance and professional leadership experience. Miami seeks students with the intellectual and interpersonal abilities to contribute to the classroom experience, to excel academically, and who possess the leadership potential to succeed.
Admissions Requirements
– A bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree) from an accredited school. Official transcripts and a foreign credential evaluation (if applicable) must be submitted.
– Professional, post-undergraduate work experience outlined in a formal resume. At least two years of full-time experience prior to enrollment is recommended. For dual-degree applicants, experience gained through internships, projects, and leadership roles may be considered.
– A competitive GMAT score (GRE considered on a case-by-case basis) and a qualifying score on the TOEFL or IELTS for non-native English speakers.
– At least one professional and/or academic letter of recommendation.
– A statement of purpose.
– Admission interviews are a requirement of the Miami MBA application process for those candidates who meet the program requirements and will be conducted by invitation only after a complete application has been reviewed. Most interviews are conducted with candidates by online platform or in-person.
COVID Admissions Updates
Miami Herbert Business School has made the following adjustments to assist current and prospective applicants amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Application Deadline Extension: Through these challenging times, the Miami Full-Time admissions team is committed to supporting students on their path to graduate school and will continue accepting applications on a rolling basis for programs beginning Fall 2020.
GMAT Requirement: The University of Miami Graduate Council has allowed graduate programs to waive the GMAT test requirement for Fall 2020 admissions due to COVID-19. For candidates that have dedicated time and resources in preparing for the GMAT (or GRE) exam in an effort to strengthen their application, Miami Herbert Business School will accept official scores earned through the GMAT Online test or the GRE General Test at Home.
English Proficiency: Due to the unavailability of the TOEFL and IELTS in certain markets due to COVID-19, the University of Miami Graduate School and Miami Herbert Business School, will, effective immediately, begin to accept the Duolingo English Test to fulfill the English proficiency exam required for admission. Duolingo English Test scores will be accepted for Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 admissions only. The minimum score required for Miami Herbert Business School is 115. Exams taken from July 15, 2019, onward are acceptable.
Academics
The Miami MBA utilizes a trio of teaching styles throughout the program: project based, discussion based and case-based learning. The curriculum is broken out into a semester schedule with two terms available per semester. The MBA requires 56 credits to graduate which is comprised of 25 core courses across accounting, business law, business technology, economics, finance, management, management science, marketing, and negotiations; as well as five elective courses. Students can focus their MBA curriculum in 1 or 2 areas by choosing from a variety of specialized electives that either build on or compliment the core MBA courses. Potential areas of focus may include: Accounting, Business Analytics, Business Law, Business Technology, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Healthcare Management, International Business, Management, Management Science, Marketing, Real Estate, or Sustainable Business.

Campus Life
The University of Miami Herbert Business School is home to many open spaces where MBA students gather to catch up and/or study. This may include grabbing a seat at a patio table in the courtyard alongside the Business School, in the breezeway on the 1st floor near the empanada stand, and along the canal where you can spot iguanas, wild birds, and occasionally a manatee. Students can grab a seat on a “glider” or find a table to enjoy the view from the Lakeside Patio. Indoors, students have dedicated study space in the de la Cruz Study Center, also known as the “Fish Bowl” and can relax or study between classes in the Graduate Student Lounge near the Ziff Graduate Career Center.

Clubs, Conferences & Competitions
There are 10 clubs at the Herbert School of Business for Full-Time MBA Students including, the Black Business Student Association, Canes in the Community, Consulting Club, Finance and Investment Club, Graduate Business Student Association, Marketing Club, Real Estate Club, Sports, Entertainment, and Media Society, Sustainability Club, Women in Business Club.
There are also two notable competitions including the Business Plan Competition and the Miami Leadership Challenge.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities
To ensure consideration of merit-based scholarship awards, prospective students must have:
– A completed online admissions application, including all required documentation
– Submitted no later than May 1, 2020 for Fall 2020 programs
– All applicants requesting a scholarship will be considered for the awards below. The Miami Herbert Business School Selection Committee will make all final determinations based on the following criteria.
1. Graduate Business Fellowship
The Miami Herbert Business School awards Graduate Business Fellowships to high achieving students who have displayed excellence in areas of academic and test performance in addition to their professional achievements.
2. Business Innovation and Technology Scholarship
Miami is a rapidly growing hub for technology and innovation. The Business Innovation and Technology Scholarship is awarded to exceptional admits from technology-related fields, including but not limited to life sciences, analytics, fintech, and computer science. Selection is based on various criteria including merit, years of experience, and level of creativity and innovation as demonstrated by impactful work.
3. Florida First Scholarship
The Florida First Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship for Florida residents. Scholarship criteria include: academic record, professional experience, and career accomplishments.
4. Julia Tuttle Scholarship
Miami is the only major American city to be founded by a woman, Julia Tuttle. In her trail-blazing spirit, the Julia Tuttle Scholarship is awarded to an accomplished female who has made an impact in her world.
5. E. Bruce McLaughlin and Cynthia Swol Endowed Scholarship in Marketing
An award for female students with at least 2 years of work experience and an interest in pursuing a marketing career. Awardees must be US citizens and demonstrate a track record of hard work and resilience.
6. Ibis Scholarship Award for Entrepreneurship
Miami is #1 in the United States for start-up activity. The Ibis, mascot of the University of Miami, represents perseverance and resilience because it is the first bird to return after a major storm. Perseverance and resilience are two words that also describe the world’s brightest and best entrepreneurs. The Ibis Scholarship Award is awarded to exceptional admits with entrepreneurship experience.
7. Spirit of Miami Scholarship for Hospitality, Sports, and Creative Industries
Miami is a global magnet city for leisure, hospitality, sports, and creative industries. The Spirit of Miami Scholarship recognizes creative individuals who have excelled in these fields and/or demonstrate great promise through a consistent record of impactful work.
8. Double Cane Scholarship
The Double Cane Scholarship is a merit-based award for ‘Cane alumni with an exceptional academic and/or professional record. Applicants must be graduates of a University of Miami degree program.

National Black MBA Association Scholarship
As a member of the National Black MBA Association, the Miami Herbert Business School proudly offers two annual scholarships of up to $25,000 to qualified members of the NBMBAA. Applicants must be a current member of NBMBAA® and meet Miami Herbert Business School admission requirements. In order to be considered for the Miami Herbert Business School/NBMBAA scholarship, you must first complete the NBMBAA® scholarship application at https://nbmbaa.org/nbmbaa-scholarship-application/ . Once submitted, you will receive a follow up email with a link to the Miami Herbert Business School application. All applicants must meet Miami Herbert admissions requirements in order to be considered for the scholarship.
The Yellow Ribbon Scholarship
The Miami Herbert Business School is a proud participant in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Yellow Ribbon Program. Through this program, MBS provides eligible student veterans with a tuition grant that is matched by the US Department of Veterans Affairs, enhancing the base tuition benefits provided by the Post-9/11 GI Bill® for students who have 100% eligibility. We currently offer the Yellow Ribbon Program Scholarship to all veterans who are 100% eligible and who have applied for this award. If you are a qualifying veteran, or the qualifying dependent of a veteran, and you are interested in benefiting from the Yellow Ribbon Program, you must submit an application through the Graduate School.
The Wuhan Friendship Scholarship
As a gesture of support for the people of Wuhan who have just emerged from an 11-week lockdown, Miami Herbert Business School is offering two partial scholarships to citizens of the city of Wuhan, China, or graduates of Wuhan-based universities.
