Curriculum
The 12-month MIT Sloan Master of Business Analytics (MBAn) program offers a rigorous, streamlined curriculum that allows students to master advanced data science, optimization, and machine learning while developing the leadership and communication skills necessary to translate data into strategic business decisions.
The MBAn program is structured across four academic terms: Fall, Independent Activities Period (IAP), Spring, and Summer. Students complete between 111 and 147 units of coursework. The Fall term includes intensive required core classes (Machine Learning, Optimization Methods, Advanced Analytics Edge, Analytics Lab, From Analytics to Action, and Analytics Tools) alongside options for unrestricted electives. The January Independent Activities Period (IAP) focuses on specialized workshops and foundational project work, including Analytics Tools, Communication and Persuasion through Data, AI Strategy, Governance and Ethics, and the initial matching phase of the Analytics Capstone. The Spring and Summer terms comprise advanced approved electives from MIT’s Operations Research Center and departments, combined with the continuation and completion of the signature Analytics Capstone project.
In order to complete the program, MBAn students must fulfill core requirements and choose from approved analytics electives to tailor their technical specialization, ranging from financial analytics and deep learning to healthcare analytics and robust optimization, supported by practical, hands-on learning through the Analytics Lab and the multi-month Analytics Capstone.
Class Profile
The MIT Sloan MBAn cohort has approximately 80 students enrolled, of which 65% are international students. On average, these students have prior professional or internship experience and demonstrate exceptional quantitative readiness. Their most common undergraduate majors are engineering, mathematics, computer science, and physics.
Careers
The MIT Sloan MBAn program offers career guidance and interview preparation via the MIT Sloan Career Development Office (CDO). Students receive personal coaching from the CDO staff, helping students to clarify their career goals and explore analytics career paths. The CDO provides students with effective job search techniques, job-specific coaching as well as access to the powerful MIT and MIT Sloan alumni network. Students can also hone their leadership skills by working with career advisors and leadership fellows through MIT Sloan’s specialized professional development resources.
