Work Experience: For the first 1.5 years post-grad I worked in real estate and for a major sporting event. I then moved on to work in government administration directly supporting senior leaders (4-star equivalents) at the Department of Defense as a civilian. I played a large role in the creation and rollout of a major strategic initiative impacting a portfolio with a value of $250B+ and then moved on to focus on public-public/public-private partnerships.

MBA Program Attributes: emphasize leadership, ethics, and innovation.

Post-MBA Goals: Ideally, start a business with a social impact focus or work for an impact investing firm.

Ideal locations: California, DC/Virginia, North Carolina

Personal Qualities: Service-oriented, open to growth, and intellectually curious.

Recent work experience does sound really interesting, should add diversity to the class. Decent GPA, do you think there's any improvement to be had re the GRE? Combined, your numbers are ok, but not spectacular. With a stronger test score, I think you could be targeting M7 calibrate programs. (0)

anon14705 Verified User. Likes Earned: 47 Public sector work is very unusual in the top 10 applicant pool and can be a trigger for big scholarships, with a strong application. Focus your application strategy on a clear reasoning for the MBA and a cohesive narrative (real estate, sporting event, public sector may otherwise seem choppy). Think about what drives you: your values and character. You have a really broad range of programs-- admit odds for Babson are very different than that of GSB. grichmond Verified User. Likes Earned: 1155 Your professional background sounds unique, and the advice above is all terrific. GRE could be better, but that depends on which end of your school selection spectrum you want to focus on... One question I have relates to your target geography. You mention Virginia, California, or North Carolina....and yet I don't see Duke, UCLA, or USC making this initial list. I also do worry (like those who commented above) that your current work may not fit with your planned work in a very concrete way, unless you can get more specific. Best of luck!
