I have worked as a researcher and consultant for Gartner for the past 4 years. I have primarily supported executive-level strategists at Fortune 500 companies across all industries. I am looking to use my MBA to transition into a more project-oriented consulting firm (BCG, Bain, McKinsey) or into an in-house strategy & operations position at one of the larger tech companies (Amazon, Apple, Google).

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1572 You'll probably need to narrow your list of schools down, over the summer. You do have a good spread of programs. Nice GMAT, but GPA is on the lower end for top programs. Was it a STEM major? Have you completed any additional coursework since undergrad? Hopefully you can show impact at work. Your goals make sense, but I'd focus in on one path, at least for your applications. Do you have any ECs? (0)

grichmond Verified User. Likes Earned: 1145 I agree with Alex - the GPA is a bit low for the very best programs...and isn't truly countered by the GMAT (even though a 730 is totally solid). As such, I'd advise you explore applying to 5-6 programs across a range of admissions difficulty, and keep in mind the track record each program has with MBB if that's your main post-MBA goal. In terms of the ugrad GPA, I'd also be curious to know the major/extent to which the coursework was quantitative and the caliber of the institution (since a 3.1 from an unknown college is somewhat different from a 3.1 at a place like MIT). You may also want to think about building an alternate transcript/taking a couple of courses this summer to show the adcoms what sort of student you are today... Best of luck! (0)

anon15202 Likes Earned: 0 Thanks alexbr4 and grichmond for the feedback. I figured that GPA would be the biggest challenge and I'm planning on taking a couple of classes to help boost my application. My GMAT score was balanced too, so I think that will help show my aptitude in Quant. I was not a STEM major but I took a good amount of ECON and STATS classes for my requirements. As for ECs I've done a lot of pretty high profile nonprofit research and consulting (i.e. managed a research project in support of a white house led initiative as well as developed syndicated research on veteran homelessness that was ultimately presented to the US Department of Commerce). Social Impact has been a very important passion of mine and shows throughout my experience. I can show a lot of impact through work too as I have been promoted almost every year in my current company. I think my biggest challenge will be convincing adcoms of the substantial (positive) change that has occurred since my undergrad years and that low gpa.
