Asian/27M/US citizen. Humanities undergrad from an M2 research university in the US. My undergrad was light on quant so I've taken Calc 1 to Calc 3 and Linear Algebra at a local college to beef up my application. I originally was a fundraiser (personal revenue target: 500K) for a health/human services non-profit and moved into a marketing/fundraising research role at my current non-profit. I want to transition into finance to do more modeling and strategy. In the long term, I'd like to either work in healthcare or return to a non-profit.

Your career is not typical for MBA candidates at top programs, which can help differentiate your profile. But I'm guessing you're not around too many MBAs, which could be helpful for you in shaping you candidacy and developing conviction around a specific set of goals. What would your ideal position/employer be, directly after the MBA. For long term, why health care, why return to non profit; what can tip you one way or the other? Finally, your GRE score is on the lower end for the very top programs. It's certainly within range for some of the programs you've targeted, but can it be improved, with more preparation? (0)

I was able to get all A's for my coursework and I'll definitely make sure to clarify my ideal position/employer post-MBA and why I'd like to be in healthcare or return to the non-profit sector in the long term for applications. I'm certainly going to try the GRE one more time, and I can certainly focus more now that I don't have all these classes on my plate. Lastly, I haven't looked at USC so thank you for the tip! PS: Great work on the podcast, the episode on tips for applying to b-school was nothing short of a gold mine for me! Keep it up! (0)

grichmond Verified User. Likes Earned: 1151 Thanks for your post! Love that you have pursued add'tl coursework to bolster the quant. side of things. Question: what do you mean by M2? (I'm not familiar with the term.) As to your goals, I'd want to know a bit more about the roles and organizations in which you might see yourself landing (esp. short-term). Overall, you have a lot of solid elements here, and I can see great things for you down the road - especially if you can nudge the GRE up ever so slightly.
