I also hold an MFA in film directing that I did for 3 years and that’s why although I’m around 29 with not that much work experience. but I’ve been working part time and freelancing throughout schools. I also did like 15 internships in college.

Both of my undergrad and grad degrees are from no. 1 film schools that have very low acceptance rates. My grad degree’s GPA is 3.7. Both GPA are out of 4

I have international and interesting background with unique community work, personal activities and worked for household name celebrities and some top projects in China and USA in my industry. I also created some award winning projects on my own and will keep working on my profile for my startup. I traveled to at least 60+ cities and lived in three countries long time in my life. I am an Asian female international student.

I want to do entrepreneurship and change direction of my company(already existed) after MBA, although not changing field really. I applied for Columbia J-term coz I don’t want to intern unless it’s needed for my startup but I doubt it. Also my industry and target market is big in NYC.

anon82493 Likes Earned: 0 Why aren't you applying to NYU? I'd highly recommend that. With your film background you could kill that "essay" question that asks you to put 6 pictures and do something really creative. You would certainly standout. I'd also recommend applying to UCLA Anderson, its the best program for people wanting to work in entertainment, and while you may not want to do an internship, you will get to network with many important people in the film/media industry you may use later down the road. But overall great stats and unique profile, key for you I think is going to be articulating very well your story and developing a clear and compelling post-mba goal. (0)

I don’t want to apply to those schools because they are pretty much the schools I attended for my undergrad and grad for BFA and MFA which are much harder to get in than the business schools there. I’ve known enough people from the industry from schools and I want to go to an Ivy League or top B schools with people to meet smart people in other fields. Also I want to have a different alumni network than those schools. (0)

But I don’t want to go West Coast again and prefer an Ivy League alumni or schools like Oxford and Cambridge for better international names...also Cornell Oxford Cambridge are just one year.. I mainly hope to get some business exposure to help with my startup so I don’t mind recruiting at all. And mainly I love nyc. Thanks for the help! (0)

anon13733 Likes Earned: 0 I am just afraid that my GRE is not good enough,(720 GMAT equivalent), and all my quant or science classes in college were replaced by AP classes I took in high school. But my quant score in GRE is 94% so it’s ok I guess. I’m just not confident coz people from my background usually don’t apply to MBA and I don’t have a lot of examples to follow (0)

Likes Earned: 1572 It can be to your advantage, from a diversity standpoint, that your experiences are different, as long as you can show impact, and justify why an mba makes sense for you. If you can network with current mba students, or alums, see if they can give you feedback on your essays. (0)

anon24028 Verified User. Likes Earned: 8 Given the extent of your experience, you should also seek out some advice on which achievements are most relevant / will be most powerful in MBA admissions. Or even, start with which ones have taught you the most or meant the most to you. Maybe also think about a common thread that runs through your experience--if only to make it easier on the reader, who may not be very familiar with your atypical industry. I think you have a really compelling story and stats---you just need to ensure it's going to be accessible (which may be stating the obvious). (0)
