Notes:

I have a lot of international work ex (Kenya, US, China, Vietnam, etc.). My clients are Fortune 500 companies and I help them craft projects so as to maximize social impact. Strong ECs at undergrad, not so strong after that. Managing a team and have great career progression.

Anon Likes Earned: 0 It will be very important for you to apply in the first rounds (assuming male) You are targeting the very best programs, with an admitted weakness (light current ECs). You might want to consider other M7 schools, top 15 programs. (0)

@Stan Likes Earned: 0 Good advice here across the board here. One thing that struck me was your plans to move into consulting/technology and away from an arguably attractive and somewhat unique niche - CSR/sustainability. I'd argue that you will be a more interesting candidate if this key aspect of your professional background carries into your future plans... (0)

Anonymous Likes Earned: 0 Tell them you want to do the same thing you are doing right now but at a more higher level when you can drive more change and become an impactful leader in doing that. This will open your gate very wide for the programs you are targeting. After you get in, you can do whatever you want. A lot of people want to be in your position, so don't waste your asset. (0)

Original Poster Likes Earned: 0 Thanks for your advice- actually my long-term plans are more about starting a social enterprise/ clean tech company, so immediately post MBA I want to do some focused consulting in the areas I am interested in. 100% want to stay in this field and I do love my job today. Also, since someone asked, I am female. This is weird to say, but a few consultants fell short of congratulating me for my gender. (0)

Your essay on HBS and Stanford should be really focus on what matter most to you, and blend the narrative with what you are doing right now. Talk more about your experience in Kenya and Vietnam and mention how other countries like these could benefit from the same if you can reach them...and an MBA will allow you to be an impactful [world] leader doing this. I'm confident you are in. Make them HBS and Stanford like you more to give you money. (0)

Anon Likes Earned: 0 I agree with a lot of the comments you've received here, I think you can make this happen! Just wanted to clarify one wrong point someone made, it doesn't matter scholarship wise if HBS and Stanford "like" you, the fellowships are need-based. (0)

femBA Likes Earned: 0 I used the strategy of saying I needed the MBA to do what I do now on a larger scale; that the MBA would allow me to have more impact due to the doors it opens, the things I would learn, and the access to people and resources. I do believe this to be true so it wasn't just an application tactic! I think this approach would serve you well considering your career goals.
