Notes:

Have an engineering and construction background and looking to move into project finance. Applying to Columbia ED in mid-august because of how low my GPA is. Taking some UC courses to try and mitigate but it is obviously a huge issue. H/W is a complete Hail Mary shot I know, hopefully, NYU or UVA can look past it. Thanks for any advice - been trying to find where my GMAT might have more weight. Thanks!

Anonymous Likes Earned: 0 Will depend on the rigor/prestige of your UG institution as well. 2.97 from a top 20 UG school is better than 2.97 from an unranked school. HBS, Sloan, Booth, and Wharton are high reaches considering your GPA, but I think you have a great shot at Columbia with ED and good shot at Stern and Darden. I've heard UVA cares a lot more about GMAT than GPA in admissions and is generally forgiving of applicants with lower UG GPAs. (0)

Anonymous Likes Earned: 0 Mech E is a tough major, and you went to a solid institution with a fairly reputable engineering department. That plus your stellar GMAT should go a long way towards mitigating the low GPA. I think you've got a really good shot at Stern, Darden, and Columbia ED as long as you've shown decent impact/progression at work, and your resume and recommendations back it up. Wharton and Harvard are real long shots. I think they'd be tough even with a much higher GPA. (0)
