Waitlisted at Booth, but not too optimistic of getting off the WL as an international applicant in R3. Confused between Yale and Ross. Hoping to live in Midwest/West post MBA, so Ross makes more sense. But Yale's brand and class size are appealing. Scholarship difference is negligible, but hoping to negotiate with SOM as Ross is inflexible.

anon10646 Likes Earned: 763 Public parent schools (Ross, Anderson) tend to be 'do not negotiate' programs. Re: Ross making more sense for Mountain West/West Coast, I wouldn't exactly agree Ross is default. Yale SOM is Northeast heavy because it's located by two large MBA markets in NYC and Boston. SOM students don't need to look further afield unless it's something like Tech which would place heavily outside of (in addition to) Northeast. Ann Arbor/Detroit is not a large MBA market, so Ross students are more likely to spread out, including places like Chicago given proximity. A SOM student may not look to Chicago unless connections or opportunity requires, but they could if they wanted. Many domestic candidates will apply and choose program due to existing connections/ties to a region and then also focus their job searches there, which also contributes to placement concentrations. As an international without those considerations and focus on opportunities West, you should be able to accomplish this from SOM as well as from Ross. (1)

If you are set on having a post MBA career in the US midwest, then Ross would likely have the edge. If you are considering working abroad post MBA, then the global Ivy League brand of Yale (or Cornell) would be stronger. (0)
