31 y.o. military vet with GI Bill choosing between Fuqua (free tuition) and Darden (free tuition) after multiple MBA acceptances. I like Duke for the community, location, and my partner's network in NC but impressed by Darden's faculty curriculum and administration. Leaning towards consulting, currently deployed and deciding between the two.

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1580 Just to be clear, do you have 70k offer at Fuqua, on top of you GI Bill? If that’s the case, that would swing things to Fuqua. Aside from that both these programs should provide you similar access. (1)

applying2024 Likes Earned: 50 Great question, Alex. No, the 70K at Fuqua will cover the difference between tuition and what the GI bill doesn’t cover. It is a full ride but I can not pocket any surplus money as Fuqua is a private university and VA benefits apply differently. Darden is essentially a full ride as well as the GI Bill covers 100% public university tuition. There is no financial difference between the two offers at the moment. Note: I did ask Darden for scholarship renegotiation using my Fuqua offer as I would be able to pocket any surplus at Darden. Not sure how likely they are to entertain this. (1)

eliot Verified User. Likes Earned: 1857 Congrats on your acceptances and full rides to both Darden and Fuqua. Both are great MBA programs that can help you land a top consulting job post MBA. You really can't go wrong either way. So your decision really comes down to your personal preference. Based on your note above, it sounds like Darden has the edge, particularly if you can get them to give you some scholarship money. Best of luck. (2)

applying2024 Likes Earned: 50 Hi Eliot, as I think about this decision, I agree that Darden scholarship money would change the calculus and tip the scales. I think I’m leaning with Fuqua now as it is my partners clear preference and I am pretty indifferent between the two. (1)
