Full rides to both (also W/L at Tuck and Ross, but need to put a deposit down now. From Missouri and ideal to work close to MO in future. My instinct is CM name is still good in Missouri, but minimal alumni network. Also giving up at least 2 years away from friends/family. CM higher ranked, especially in POM and Tech which are my interests. Help!

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1740 Yes, Tepper would provide your more access to opportunities throughout the U. S. It’s in the higher tier, so also a potentially better overall experience (classmates, etc)

But if you know you want to remain in MO, and Olin has a strong network in your region, then that is compelling, despite them being in a tier or two lower. Not a straightforward decision. A little more clarity on your post MBA goals may help.

If you want to settle near St Louis or even in Chicago, then Olin would be a good option. If you want a more national network, then Tepper would likely provide more options. (0)

anon53224 Likes Earned: 1 I am also from Missouri pursuing a career in investment banking. Going to MBA at Stern. You need to choose Tepper if you want your best possible chances at a career in IB. Realistically 70%+ of the IB MBA opportunities are in NYC, so a huge part of the process for you will be commuting to NYC for coffee chats. If you choose WashU, it will be much more difficult to get in front of the opportunities you want. It’s a great school, but the location is tough to start your career in IB. Your best bet is to go to Tepper, do 2-5 years in NYC banking, and then transferring back to Missouri after establishing your career. There are some respectable boutiques in STL and KC, but the good ones are few enough that if you want to have a good shot at breaking in, you need to have been on a few deals first (or know a few senior bankers personally).
