Notes:

In New York, prepping for Stern when I get a call that there is a seat open at Kellogg. I'm torn because Kellogg is such a good school (especially marketing/CPG) but I know we want to end up in NYC after, so is the gap still that large? Plus my wife would most likely be staying behind in NYC. Is the gap large enough to make the move?

Anon Likes Earned: 0 Stern is great in marketing, not as good as the best (Kellogg). But Stern would definitely make up for it since you want to be in NYC after graduation. There will be incredible networking opportunities in the city. So stay in NY. Happy wife = Happy Life (0)

Anonymous Likes Earned: 0 Man Kellogg all the way, Stern has no respect in the city, basically a school for all the Columbia or M7 rejects. Northwestern is THE school for marketing and will open amazing doors for you. (0)

Anon Likes Earned: 0 I would actually say Stern if your wife definitely can't move to Chicago. A marriage is so much more important than the difference between a top 7 vs top 15 MBA program. Besides, the full ride at Stern will help offset a lot of the difference in ROI (0)

Anonymous Likes Earned: 0 All things the same, I'd definitely say Kellogg. However, with your wife staying in NYC, you wanting to end up in NYC, and the full ride to Stern, I'd say stick with Stern. Kellogg is more prestigious and stronger in CPG, but you should still be able to find marketing opportunities in NYC at Stern. Ultimately, do what feels right for you, but I wouldn't sacrifice my wife and a full ride just to go to Kellogg (and I'm saying this as a Northwestern alum). (0)

Anon Likes Earned: 0 Stern is very well respected in NYC, even better than Columbia in marketing. I live in NY and I personally know people who have turned down Columbia to go to Stern. With the full ride in Stern, it should be a no brainer. (0)

@Anonymous Below Likes Earned: 0 Yeah but Stern attracts better talent than Ross, Duke, Darden, Cornell, UCLA, etc. Being in NY helps its case. Stern's student calibre would be closer to a top 10 program (Yale, Haas and Tuck). Look at its low acceptance, relatively good yield and high GMAT scores, it was just in the top 10 a few years ago. Anonymous Likes Earned: 0 I realize Kellogg is a better school, but a ranking doesn't hand you a career. You need to put in the work yourself to get what you want. A lot of people on here don't realize how important the other aspects of your life can be. NYU will still give you many amazing opportunities and having the support of your wife will give you an intangible benefit that few will understand. Take the full ride (money and prestige) at Stern, and don't think twice. (0)

Anon Likes Earned: 0 I was in the same boat last year and chose Stern. I landed an internship at my dream company and am MUCH happier in New York than I would have been at Evanston. Anything Stern lacks in its reputation as an M7 it makes up for in your experience and ability to network in NYC. (0)

@Anonymous Below Likes Earned: 0 How do you know you are much happier in stern than you would have been in Evanston, if you didn't go to kellogg and experience it. Life's a gamble, you don't know what would happen on the other side, I've met tons of kellogg alumni and not one of them regrets his experience and claims they were the best 2 years of his life and opened doors that may not have opened from other schools. @anon below from below Likes Earned: 0 I lived in Chicago before moving to New York. I was ready for a change and a bigger, more international city. I'm not saying Evanston isn't great, just wasn't the next step for me. I've been very happy amongst the "super awkward and insecure students" Stern. :) Can't believe people waste their time spewing so much hatred on these posts. Good luck with your decision OP! (0)

Stern & Kellogg Admit Likes Earned: 0 From my perspective. Being admitted into both Stern and Kellogg (enrolling in Sloan this fall) -> Yes I know I am a loser for hanging out here, but this site is pretty addicting hahaha). I can say that Stern students are by all means not awkward or insecure. In fact I was very impressed by the legitimacy behind Stern's EQ + IQ student body. Great group of people. So in your case I'd pick Stern. Worth the money, wife and location. (0)
