The Vanderbilt / Owen online MBA application is live for the 2016-2017 admissions season, meaning that the Owen MBA recommendation questions are available for MBA applicants and their recommenders.

 

2016-2017 Vanderbilt Owen MBA Recommendation Questions

The recommendation form begins with the recommender’s contact information, education level, and relationship to the applicant.  While recommenders are encouraged to use the online form, they also have the option to upload a letter that addresses each of the questions.

Recommenders are then asked to rate the applicant in the following categories:

  • Intellectual Ability
  • Motivation/Initiative
  • Integrity
  • Oral Communication
  • Written Communication
  • Task Management
  • Working with Others
  • Leadership Potential
  • Overall Potential Compared to Peers

Each category can be ranked with the following options:

  • Truly Exceptional (Top 1-2%)
  • Excellent (Top 5%)
  • Very Good (Top 10%)
  • Good (Top 25%)
  • Average (Top 50%)
  • Below Average (Bottom 50%)
  • Inadequate Opportunity to Judge

Recommendation Questions

Following the chart are several questions with open fields for content.

  1. If you marked Truly Exceptional or Excellent (Top 1-5%) or Below Average (Bottom 50%) please explain your rating(s). (500 characters)
  2. What characteristics do you consider to be talents and strengths of the applicant? (1200 characters)
  3. What areas do you consider to be deficiencies or weaknesses of the applicant? (1200 characters)
  4. Give an example of a time when the individual exceeded expectations or showed initiative. (1200 characters)
  5. Describe the individual’s ability to relate to others including speaking/writing skills, presentation skills, nonverbal signals, and social awareness. (1200 characters)
  6. Give an example of a time when the individual used judgment and logic in solving a problem. How did he/she perform? (1200 characters)
  7. Please provide an example of when the individual has provided leadership on a project as part of a team. (1200 characters)
  8. Please provide any additional comments that might be helpful in assessing the applicant’s potential for academic and/or professional success. (1200 characters)
