grichmond Verified User. Likes Earned: 1145 Numbers do look excellent. On the younger end of the spectrum, but hopefully you have some nice milestones/leadership accomplishments. Are you an ORM? Also, I presume there is a logical explanation for your big 4 consulting to VC to tech plans? (Many folks stick with VC once they get in, hence the question). ECs will be important. I am also puzzling over the school selection a bit as it doesn't seem to align with target plans as well as it could (see Alex's comment above).

To be honest, I'm still early in my school research phase, and chose a few of those schools based on familiarity (I went to UMich undergrad, Yale SOM is close to home). Definitely worth putting some more time into learning which schools are best for tech. I think I'd be hesitant to apply to Stanford just because of how low their acceptance rate is, but Wharton and Sloan might be good options to look into. As for the consulting->VC->tech, I see technology as a common thread through all three. My consulting job was pretty technical (I helped a large organization implement financial software), and my current role in VC involves maintaining an investment database and creating automations to streamline manual processes. I'm not necessarily opposed to staying within the VC world after graduation, but tech is what gets me excited, and working for FAANG (maybe doing product management) could be a goal. I'm a white male (so not ORM, I believe). Interested if you could elaborate on what would benefit my candidacy from an EC perspective. I'm just getting started working with an environmental advocacy organization, and I play in a men's tennis league, but that's about it. Always looking for ideas to boost that aspect of my application. (0)

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1572 “That’s about it” is pretty good. ECs show you are multi dimensional (Tennis) and that you care (environmental advocacy). If you can show real impact at work (recognising your role is tech to support your business), push those ECs, then you should be aiming high. Stanford is a reach for everyone, but might be worth the shot. (0)
