Hi, I'm working with the government since 2016 in the education and health sector.
1. Part of the curriculum development team since 2017, I'm also helping and developing English textbooks for grades 1-8. Also, I'm part of the teacher training which is organized with the help of Unicef. I'm also part of the language pedagogy team which trains teachers (organized by the National Council of educational research and training and Jharkhand council of educational research and training).
2. Part of the policymaking and ICT development team of the Jharkhand government.
3. working with a member of parliament where I assist him in developing his constituency.
4. I worked with the red cross where I was responsible for organizing blood donation drives and counseling thalassemia patients and their parents.
5. working with a government hospital where I'm responsible for patient care and how funds will be distributed among different departments.
6. Part of curriculum material development team and research team.
7. Part of the team which reviews content developed by the Boston consulting group for the education department.
8. Part of the team that chooses students who will represent the state nationally and internationally.

Public service is clear, but showing your impact specifically, not just that you were a part of things, will be important. If you're looking to toe the line between public/private Yale SOM is also a no-brainer target. Do you have a test score yet? (1)

anon14747 Likes Earned: 140 I would definitely add Yale to the list if you'd like to be in consulting in the public sector. Round one I think is ideal so be sure to nail the test - as you're going to be cutting it really close with round 1 deadlines, and you likely wont have time for a retake. Although you have a unique background to many other indian applicants, there's a good chance you could be put into that nationality bucket, so that's the reasoning for R1 (1)

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1577 Absolutely make sure you can target round 1. Work on fine tuning your goals, so you can show forward looking focus. Do you have any geographic preference, post MBA? (0)

grichmond Verified User. Likes Earned: 1151 I hate to throw a wrench in the works, but have you considered public policy programs (or even joint degrees)? Princeton (SPIA), Harvard (Kennedy), John Hopkins (SAIS), Columbia (SIPA), (and many more) offer masters in policy and their graduates go on to work as consultants or with NGOs like OECD, UNICEF, UNESCO, World Bank, etc. Obviously, if you are looking to pivot OUT of the public sector and want to get into traditional consulting (MBB, etc), than an MBA makes sense, but if you are looking to work in a domain that sits between your current work and the business side of things, a joint degree could make sense. Of course, you will need a very strong test score if your GPA falls below average at target schools, which may be the case here. Did you attend a prestigious institution in India for ugrad? What did you study? Best of luck!

anon63208 Likes Earned: 3 Actually, I am interested in dual programs like public policy plus MBA. Also, I took a practice test, and my GMAT score is 690 right now. I am planning to take the GMAT in July last week or the first week of August, hopefully, by then I can get more than 700. I did a master's in zoology from a 2nd tier University. (1)
