I was from China and came to the US with my family 4.5 years ago. I've served in the US Army as a Financial Management Analyst for 2.5 years. I did corporate social responsibility (CSR) consulting work for one year in China before coming to the US. I would like to shift my career back to CSR consulting through an MBA program after the Army. I have both bachelor's and master's degrees in Mining Engineering from China with GPAs of 3.14 and 3.8 respectively.

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1572 Your pathway does appear to be less usual, which can be good. Assume you were a Chinese citizen, now a US citizen? Impact at work, will be important. Applying in the first rounds may also be a benefit. Numbers might be OK, a little concerned about the undergrad GPA, what was the class rank? (0)

ev Likes Earned: 10 First of all, thank you for your comments and suggestions. You are right. I was a Chinese citizen and got my US citizenship 1 years ago. I have a quite unusual background. I was born and raised in a rural village. I am the second child of the family and my father saved me from abortion with huge sacrifice under then super strict one-child policy. I am the 1st generation student in my family, and one the first females who went to college in the village. My undergrad class rank was 3/27. (I was the only female in class.) Both my grandfathers passed away in the last 2 years of college. I missed some classes during those 2 semesters and had a lower grades. Other than my low undergrad GPA, I also have 2 years work gap when I first got to the US, because I had to wait for my green card and finishing the background check when joining the service as a green card holder back in 2017. I plan to apply in round 1, and am trying to improve my GMAT score in the meantime. (0)

anon2501 Likes Earned: 10 I attended language school when I first got to the US, then did part-time jobs at a local pet store and a cafe. I signed the Army contract at the end of 2017 but didn't get to go until March 2019, because of the background check policy for all green card holders posted by the former president. At that time, no one would know how long the background process could be, could be 6 months, could be one year, or even longer. I ended up doing some part-time jobs while waiting to be cleared and shipped to training. I have a short essay to explain my work gap, hopefully, this won't be a huge disadvantage for me. (1)
