What type of work experience have you had, what are your post MBA goals? Be good to know more about your plan and pathway. (0)

I ask because I am trying to connect the dots between your past experience and your stated goals and hoping to find a link. I agree with Alex that the GPA is a bit of a red flag, even with the stellar GMAT result. Perhaps you have some extenuating circumstances around it though? Like training for the Olympics, etc? MBA Math or HBS CORe Online would help your case here. I do think your sports background and accomplishments in that domain, coupled with your first-gen, African American status will help you to stand out. It would just be ideal if it all could be woven together somehow (e.g. passion and success in sports relates in some way to future goals)...or if something in your background fit particularly well with your goals in asset management. Also, ideally you have some progression and accolades to show in the 5 years you've been working? Best of luck and thanks for sharing your profile!

anon43118 Likes Earned: 25 For the content of the low GPA, being a first grad graduate, I viewed athletics to overcome poverty to change my family struggle. I focused all my energy on athletics to have a fulfilling career, but injuries didn't work out. I was aware of that, and I studied finance, so I consulting for a while to have an accelerating experience in finance. I knew B school would allow me to reset my standard and focus on academia full time. This is the reason for accomplishing a high GMAT score. After my research on the GMAT, I discovered that majority of African-American test takes score below 500, so I challenge to score in the 700 that resulted into the 770 to prove to the admission board that I'm more than capable of doing the work and of showing if I knew better (as a high school/Undergraduate), I would have done better. I currently work at a top asset management firm supporting portfolio management—building reports and presentations for client meetings. After working in finance for 4-5 years, I understand the financial operations of a firm. I desire to go to b-school to pivot into IB to gain financial engineering experience and gain transactional experience to assist with my long-term goals. I intend to join a PE firm to gain experience and start a fund focusing on emerging markets and low-income neighborhoods. I hope this sheds some light and explains everything. Best. ALK (2)
