Like many people, I am having trouble deciding between MIT and Wharton (have extended my deposit deadline).
I want to go into tech and come from a consulting background, so I worry that MIT may have so many engineers that it would be hard to compete for roles. Not sure if it is any different at Wharton though.

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1577 You can search on decision wire for candidates that were admitted to both programs and see their decision making process. It may be possible that Sloan has a higher portion of engineers in its class, but that can work both ways for you, I think. Both programs will provide very good access to tech opportunities. Sloan’s tech ecosystem might have more strength, Wharton has more breadth across the board. (1)

anon65627 Likes Earned: 107 First of all, congratulations on your acceptances! Second, may I ask how you got the extension on your deposit deadline? (or if anyboby knows about this). I was recently accepted to Stern and have to pay the deposit on march 4th, but am still waiting on other schools (I have an interview today with Yale and next Wednesday with Kellogg). I understand $2,000 in the long run might not be a lot, but I'm an international student and my salary is not exactly high (adding to the fact I basically drained my savings on the whole application process). Thank you in advance if anyone can chime in. (3)

anon25220 Likes Earned: 12 I also want to go into tech and chose Wharton over Sloan (after much angsting). I personally was drawn more towards the breadth of Wharton, but loved all the tech research and initiatives coming out of MIT. While Sloan does have a lot of folks coming from engineering/CS, Sloan's reputation in tech would probably help you more than the increased competition would hurt you. At least, I never got the impression that there were competition for tech roles from the students I spoke with. I wish there was a wrong choice here to make it easier, but you can't go wrong! (3)

eliot Verified User. Likes Earned: 1857 Congratulations your acceptances and scholarships! Yes, both MIT Sloan and Wharton are great programs - you can't go wrong with either choice. Based on your research, do you personally prefer one program over the other (fit wise/location wise)? In addition, how important is the $50k scholarship to your decision? In summary, given your tech focus and the $50k scholarship from MIT Sloan, I would give the slight edge to MIT Sloan as long as you like the fit with the MIT Sloan program.
