Notes:

Waitlisted at INSEAD and MIT Sloan. I'm torn between choosing Cambridge and Oxford as my post-MBA goal is either consulting or tech. I know that Cambridge has slight edge for tech, but the current slowdown in consulting hiring and hiring freezes in tech companies really make me question whether 1 year program is the way to go or reapply next year.

alexbr4 Verified User. Likes Earned: 1587 Yes, this is an interesting dilemma. The economy is definitely retracting, and this may well impact those going to a one year program more so than two year programs. Do you have good current work opportunities? Are you quite early in your career? (1)

eliot Verified User. Likes Earned: 1860 An additional point to consider. Consulting firms do a lot of hiring from their summer associate class. Meaning, if you are a career switcher into consulting, you would likely benefit from the opportunity to land a summer consulting job between first and second year. On the other hand, if you are not a career switcher and you want to get back into the workforce, then the one-year programs are attractive. (2)

anon10646 Likes Earned: 776 Heavily depends on your current work situation and if you can continue to progress. Your stats and WLs suggest you may have success reapplying R1 next cycle. Also, I would consider asking if you can be considered/defer to Jan intake for INSEAD. Sloan WL convert solves issue. (2)

anon23188 Likes Earned: 10 To provide a bit more background: I'm an older applicant with 7+ years of experience currently working in tech and looking to pivot to either consulting or tech strategy/product management in Southeast Asia. I'm also admitted off the waitlist to INSEAD with scholarship! As an older candidate, I'm not sure working another year would provide me with the kind of progression that I'm looking for. After speaking with several alum, I'm also convinced that the school's strength and network in Southeast Asia would be valuable assets in the future. Despite current economic slowdown, I feel the benefits that I would get exceed the risk, and therefore I decided to go to INSEAD in Fall 2023! Thank you all for the valuable advices and thank you Alex for discussing my dilemma in the Wire Taps! I'm a huge fan of the podcast and really enjoyed the discussion and it really helped me overcome this dilemma. (1)
