The Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business welcomed 144 new students to campus this fall. Read on for some key stats from the MBA Class of 2027 profile.
Thirty-seven percent of the new Tepper MBA students are international, just a two percent dip from last year, representing 21 countries. Tepper further broke down the geographic distribution of its MBA class this year and 28 percent came from the Mid-Atlantic U.S. and 16 percent from the Northeast. Seventeen percent hailed from the West Coast of the U.S.
U.S. minorities remain highly represented in the MBA program, with 28 percent identifying as Asian, and 11 percent as Black or African American. By ethnicity, 19 percent identify as Hispanic or Latino. Fourteen percent of U.S. citizens and permanent residents are active-duty military or veterans. Tepper did not report women’s representation at the time of publication.

Academic Performance
The average undergraduate GPA this year for Tepper admits is 3.33 and the median is 3.38. In keeping with Carnegie Mellon’s reputation, over 42 percent of the MBA class hold an undergraduate degree in engineering. Business and commerce majors make up nearly 24 percent of the class followed by economics majors at nearly 11 percent. Another roughly six percent earned degrees in the math and physical sciences, followed by arts and humanities majors at nearly six percent.

When it came time to take the GMAT, the new Tepper MBA class averaged 707 on the 10th Edition GMAT and 659 on the Focus Edition. The median scores, respectively, landed at 710 and 655. For those who took the GRE, their average Verbal score is 159 and the Quantitative average is 163.

Professional Background
With 5.2 average years of career experience, the Class of 2027 comes from a diverse array of industries: 18.98 percent worked in technology or news media, 16.06 percent in financial services, and 13.87 percent as consultants. Government workers make up 11.68 percent of the class, and healthcare professionals comprise 10.22 percent.
