IESE MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / Video Conference
Time and Location of interview I applied in R1 and got an almost immediate response from the adcoms. I scheduled my interview some time in mid November via video conference as, at the time, I was based in India and could not travel out to Barcelona for the open day. I wrote to the adcoms about this and found them extremely supportive. I got the date according to my convinience and mailed them once I booked the room for the VC (for people in India, best place for a VC is the Reliance Web World. Fine, they’re not the *best*

Wharton MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / Alumni
I am a R1 applicant. I recently had an interview with an alumnus in the SF Bay area. I really enjoyed the whole experience. I did notice that on some of the message boards there is an ongoing debate over alum vs. On campus interview. Based on my own experience and experiences of my friends who have attend on-campus interview, I strongly recommend alum interviews, for the following reasons a) Alum interviews are casual and you get the time and opportunity to tell your story. On the other hand, the on-campus interviews I have heard are more formal with a

Kellogg MBA Admissions Interview Questions: R1 (Accepted) / Alumni
I had my interview with an alum whose contact was provided by adcom. I requested the alum to schedule an interview during weekends if possible and he was very accomodating about the same. We met on a Saturday at a Starbucks close to his house. He was a 2005 graduate and had been on the admissions. However this was his first experience interviewing an applicant. Following were the questions asked: Take me through your resume starting with your choice of undergraduate college and elaborate on the career choices you have made so far? What are your goals and why Kellogg?

Kellogg MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Telephonic
I just finished my Kellogg interview around 40 mins back. And I really dont know what I should take away from it. The phone call came in 20 mins late, and then we spoke for not more than 20 mins (maybe even less), and that’s it – adcom said “Sayonara”, I said “Good bye” and it ended right there. As I picked up the phone, the adcom apologised for being late. She cited that since I had given my cell phone number, it was difficult to get through. Infact, the first time I picked up the phone, niether of us

Wharton MBA Admissions Interview Questions: R1 / second-year student
My interviewer started by commending me on making it this far in the process and also complimented me on my resume. He then asked only one resume-oriented question: Looking at your resume, what is the one thing on it that really stands out and why? The answer I gave turned into an example of my leadership abilities, and he followed up by asking for an example of how I function in a team. The next questions were: What are your short- and long-term career goals? Why MBA? Why now? Why Wharton? Is there anything in your application that you think

Duke / Fuqua MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Alumni / Off-campus
I interviewed in late Nov ‘05 with a Duke Alum. The interview lasted for more than 2 hours in an international location. Apart from the questions already discussed here, I can think of a few more: Which other schools are you applying to? What if you get admitted to all the schools on your list? ( I was made comfortable and asked for my honest opinion with reasons for or against each school) What defines your leadership style? Tell me 6 qualities you would expect in your leader (Supervisor). Tuck MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Early action round / Phone interview with a 2nd year student
I was never comfortable during the interview. I figure I am better in a face-to-face interview than in a phone setup. The questions:- Walk me through your resume. Why MBA/Tuck/Now? How do you know if you are a good fit for Tuck? Examples of teamwork. How do you handle a diffilcult team mate? If you had one year completely off, what would you do? Any questions for the interviewer. The interview lasted about 20 mins. It did not help at all that it was Diwali night in India with loud firecracker noises in the background. It was a very average

Harvard MBA Admissions Interview Questions: On campus / Round 1
Both my Harvard and Wharton interviews were on campus and had an extremely relaxed vibe. At Harvard I met with a “consultant to the admissions office” who was an alum I guess on contract to the admissions office during their busy season. The interview lasted a strict half hour, which included a few minutes of introduction and time for my questions at the end. In general, I experienced the following line of questioning: Resume walk through (not as much emphasis than at Wharton) Why MBA Why Harvard What’s the plan post-MBA Extracurriculars (now and what I planned to do on

Ross MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Telephonic / Second Year Int’l Student
Interviewed over the phone with a second year international student at Ross in early October. It was a 30 minute long interview with similar questions as discussed above. Since I interviewed before I submitted my application I tried to weave in a few questions into my spiel. The information proved to be useful for my essays. The student was very polite and made me feel comfortable. She also helped me get some information from the adcom as a follow up to the interview. ForrestGump?’s interview experience: Questions asked: Why MBA ? Why Now ? Why Ross ? Interests outside work ? Describe a situation

Cornell / Johnson MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 4 / 2nd Year student / On-campus
My experience at Cornell was extremely positive. The 2nd year student was very friendly and easy to talk to. The interview was very conversational. She introduced herself and gave me her educational and professional history first. The interview was blind and she had my resume printed out and ready. I felt that it was very easy to direct the conversation myself by bringing up certain experiences as well as telling her that I would like to back up and explain such and such before so that she could better understand my decisions. She wanted to get a good feel of

Ross MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / Alumni
It was a 30-40 mins interview and I met my interviewer in a local Starbucks. The alumnae graduated from Ross in 2003. She was very helpful, down to earth and the interview was very casual, though she took lots of notes. The interview questions were: Why MBA? Why now? Why Ross? Walk thr the resume? Describe your leadership experience at your work place? Describe a situation where you had to make a tough decision? Describe a situation where some one in your grp was against the decison you made? How did you solve this difficult situation? And what did you

Stanford GSB MBA Admissions Interview Questions
I had some questions about how my Stanford interview went, so I’ll give a bit of an overview about how it went. I did the interview with a local alumi. He chose to do it at a local steak-house at 4pm since it would be fairly quiet and we wouldn’t be disturbed. I suppose ppl think it is a bit unorthodox, but I knew many people that had an interview at a Starbucks or whatnot, and it was loud, smelly, unpleasant, etc. It usually isn’t up to you to pick the place, but I would try to steer clear of

UCLA / Anderson MBA Admissions Interview Questions: On campus / Round 1
My interview was originally scheduled with Wesley Hawk, but I ended up interviewing with Craig Hubble instead. He was very laid-back and friendly, and although I was very nervous walking into the interview (this was my first one), I felt at ease once we started talking. He asked about my professional background and number of years of work experience. He also asked about my extra-curricular activities while in college, and what sort of community service work I’ve done since school. He seemed to steer the conversation frequently towards “Why Anderson?” types of information, which I was more than happy to

UNC / Kenan-Flagler MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Early Action / Adcom
My interview with Kenan-Flagler occurred on October 3, 2005. I applied in the Early Action round. The interview was preceded by sitting in on a microeconomics class. Also, I had lunch with the other prospective applicants (I believe there were about 7 other applicants there) and 4 current students, and was given a tour of the building. I arrived at 9:20, and met Barbara Ann in the admissions office. She was very nice and introduced me to Leo, the student who was taking me to the class I was to sit in on. The classroom was crowded with about 40

Ross MBA Admissions Interview Questions: On campus / adcom
The textbook 30 minute, blind admissions interview. After some small talk, the interviewer went right into questions, skipping any sort of resume rundown. It was clear that the interviewer was following a script for the most part. Some of the questions, to the best of my recollection, were: Why MBA? Why Ross? Why now? Has there ever been a time when you had to coach someone who wasn’t performing well at work? Which clubs and activities are you interested in at Ross? Any questions for me? The interviewer was quite pleasant and friendly and took copious notes. There was no

UNC / Kenan-Flagler MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Adcom
I had an interview with Buck William, a member of Adcom team of UNC, the interview was extremely friendly and relaxing. He really made a lots of efforts to put me at easy and make me comfortable, which I think a bit more than needed! He started by talking to me about Philippines because 46 years ago, he had a great time in Mindanao (the south of the Philippines) and Manila. So we chatted and we shared a lot about Philippines. Then he asked me how my life is in Philippines and how I grew up in Vietnam. A bit

Harvard MBA Admissions Interview Questions: R1 / Alum / Admitted
The HBS alum met me in an office. He told me that he read everything except the Recs. He said HBS asked him to prob four areas and he told me upfront what they were. The four were: An example of a conflict I was in that didn’t get resolved like I wanted it to be resolved. My strengths and weaknesses Typical responsibilities (describe one week at work) A professional setback. How I handled frustration. We walked through all four. Typically he asked one-two follow ups for each topic. That took about 20-25 minutes. Then he started asking about life

MIT / Sloan MBA Admissions Interview Questions: R1 / Adcom / Admitted
I had my interview with an admissions officer in a hub city. Prior to the interview I read up on Sloan-specific interview guides and visited several forums to prepare. I laid out several answers to all the common behavioral questions. I also went through a mock interview session with a clearadmit rep. My actual interview, however, was not the typical Sloan behavioral interview. The questions I fielded were: What is “consulting”? Pretend I am your friend and you are trying to sell me your job. Why should I become a consultant? Specifically, what is your role? (here, I had the

Duke / Fuqua MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Second Year Student / Round 1
I interviewed at Duke University in the fall of 2004 and was admitted to the class of 2007. Duke uses second year students or alumni interviewers for all of their interviewing. I interviewed with a second year student that had a similar background as me. The interview was very laid back and mostly intended to get to know me as a person. It had the general questions, why Duke, why MBA etc. It was more conversational than anything else and it felt very comfortable. From what I have been told the interview can only help you at Duke and is

MIT / Sloan MBA Admissions Interview Questions: R1 / Adcom
My interview was very friendly and conversational but, with the benefit of hindsight, it’s clear that many of the seemingly unrelated questions centered around one particular doubt the adcom had about my candidacy. The interviewer first asked me about the details of my work. In my essays, I tried to leave out most of the technical details of my small business for fear of boring the reader to tears. So when I was asked “So what does your company actually do?”, I was a little surprised that they were interested. After answering, I was asked what the steps and thought
