Admissions Decision: Admitted, Round 2
Scholarship: $70,000 Merit Award (Kenan-Flagler Fellowship)
Interview Dynamics:
The interview was comprehensive, meaning the interviewer had access to my entire application, including my fellowship essays. Despite the thorough preparation on their end, the vibe was relaxed, more like a conversational coffee chat than a formal assessment. We actually went over the allotted time discussing my hobbies, interests, and volunteering work.
Questions Asked:
While it felt like a conversation, there were about five specific behavioral questions woven in:
1) Tell me about a time you faced uncooperativeness while leading a team. How did you manage that?
2) Tell me about a time you led without formal authority. What is your typical role in a team setting?
3) How would your teammates describe you?
4) How do you deal with feedback ?
5) Detailed questions regarding my volunteering and personal interests.
What Surprised Me:
I was honestly surprised by just how friendly the interviewer was. You often hear about Carolina Nice, but experiencing it during an MBA interview was refreshing. The fact that they spent so much time digging into my life outside of work (hobbies and my volunteer work) made me feel seen as a whole person, not just a set of stats.
Conclusion & School Vibe:
Kenan-Flagler is absolutely as warm and supportive as they claim to be. My interview experience confirmed that they don’t just talk about their four core values (Integrity, Inclusion, Innovation, and Impact), they actively look for them in your personality.
Advice for Fellow Applicants:
My biggest piece of advice is to deeply internalize the four core values. Don’t just mention them—find specific examples from your professional life, volunteering, or long-term goals that demonstrate you already live them. Because it is a comprehensive interview, be prepared to talk about anything you wrote in your essays (especially the fellowship ones) with the same passion you had when writing them.
