SMU Cox MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 2 / Adcom / On-Campus

The following SMU Cox interview report was submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 2 applicant.

My interview was conducted by the assistant director of full-time MBA admissions at Cox.  She started the interview by reviewing my resume with me step by step and asking some pointed questions for her to get more clarity about my different work experiences.  She did not ask me any typical MBA interview questions like “Why MBA” or “Why Cox.”  I think the reason is that most of these topics were covered in my essays.  She did ask me about a time when I exhibited teamwork.

I asked her if they were working on new initiatives and what those were.  She really lit up when she started talking about their new data center and their new concentration in big data.  She also talked about how they had revamped their career services division and that the lady running it was a rock star.

The other question I asked her was what the best kept secret at SMU was.  She said that it was Dallas and that she was new to town and that it was a lot of fun. Then I asked her if there was a gym I could work out in after our interview.  She actually took the time to walk me to the gym, give me a tour, and then turned me loose.  I sent her a thank you note for her help and that was pretty much that.
