IESE Launches Corporate Finance MOOC

ieseIESE, like many other leading business schools, is embracing technology to offer Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and has just launched its latest, called Corporate Finance Essentials. Designed for executives anywhere in the world who want to understand key financial issues related to companies, investors and their interaction with capital markets, the new course will be taught by IESE Javier Estrada.

Over the course of a series of six lectures lasting between 45 and 60 minutes each, Estrada will help participants increase their financial literacy and gain a better understanding of what is written in the financial press. Recommended readings will complement the lectures.

No previous knowledge or preparation is required. The intent of the course is to help participants develop the financial vocabulary of companies and finance professionals. Calling corporate finance “the study of what companies do,” Estrada says the program will provide a “first peek” at what that entails on a theoretical and practical level.

Estrada is known for his research in the areas of portfolio management, investment strategies and risk. He will help guide MOOC participants through an examination of mean returns, volatility and beta and how they relate to assessing risk and return. He’ll also discuss correlation as it relates to diversification, as well as why diversification is central to portfolio construction.

The free course, available on the Coursera platform, will begin on September 29th and continue through November 10th. Participants who complete the course will be eligible for a Statement of Accomplishment. The course will be delivered in English.
