Things to Do at Yale SOM This Summer from the Assistant Dean of Admissions
What’s summer like at Yale SOM? Bruce DelMonico, the assistant dean of admissions, offers suggestions and opportunities for students to learn more about the school and New Haven over the summer.
While most current Yale SOM students are interning in cities around the globe, there are still opportunities for prospective students to meet up and learn more about Yale through various Summer Social events. These events offer applicants a unique opportunity to sit down with current students and get their unfiltered opinion about Yale SOM. It’s a chance to have one-on-one conversations in an intimate and unstructured environment—usually a coffee shop or bar.
Alumni and Current Student Panels
In various cities around the U.S., prospective students can attend one of Yale’s many alumni and current student panels. Hosted in New York City, Washington, D.C., and more, applicants should come prepared to ask questions. The goal of these panels is for alumni and current students to share their personal experiences and how Yale SOM has prepared them for their careers.
Abridged Campus Visit Program
Even though few students are on campus over the summer and courses are not in session, applicants can still enjoy an abridged campus visit program. This program is offered in June, July, and August, and allows applicants to experience Evans Hall and life in New Haven for themselves. You can take a tour of Yale SOM, get questions answered during an interactive session, and head out around town.
Things to do in New Haven
Speaking of around town; summer is a lovely time to visit New Haven. There’s so much to do from visiting Yale’s museums or libraries to grabbing some pizza, enjoying ice cream, and more. To help guide you, through New Haven, Yale SOM’s admissions officers listed some of their favorite destinations below:
- Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library (Gutenberg Bible)
- Ashley’s or Arethusa (great ice cream)
- Bella’s (great brunch)
