Why business school? Why now?
I wanted to go to business school to help position myself in another career field while giving myself the opportunity to learn from other professionals and gain valuable insights from their experiences.

Why SMU Cox? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
I chose Cox because of its roots in the Dallas area, the program’s prestige, and the network of alumni that exists.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2021?
My business and cultural background allows me to bring a different perspective to the table.

Fun fact that didn’t get included on your application?
I am the face of AA’s Revenue Management in the CR Smith American Airlines Museum.

Post-MBA career interests?
Consulting and Wealth Management

Advice to current prospective applicants:
— One thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
I would go to the preview days and speak to current students and alumni to hear their thoughts and experiences at Cox.

— One thing you would change or do differently?
I’d meet with my CMC advisor earlier on so that I could have started networking with my target companies before I started classes.

— Part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
I would bypass the GMAT. The thought that the juice was worth the squeeze got me through it.

What is your initial impression of SMU Cox’s students/culture/community?
SMU Cox has an extremely supportive culture. Everyone is more than willing to help in every aspect. Whether it’s studying, networking, or recruiting, there are always people happy to help each other reach their goals.

One thing you have learned about SMU Cox that has surprised you?
There are resources for everything at Cox.

Thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
Studying for finals!

Thing you are most excited about in your first year?
I am enjoying learning about other industries and career paths and seeing the business world from others’ perspectives and looking forward to more.

Jonathan Pfeffer
Jonathan Pfeffer joined the Clear Admit and MetroMBA teams in 2015 after spending several years as an arts/culture writer, editor, and radio producer.
