Age: 32
Hometown: Taiwan, Taipei
Undergraduate Institution and Major: Chemical and Material Engineering
Pre-MBA Work Experience (years, industry): 8 years, manufacturing industry

Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
Acquiring an MBA degree was a big decision for me because I had to give up a rare promotion opportunity that I have pursued for almost four years. Yet, considering expanding my horizon, escalating my skills to the next level, and pivoting my career, I decided to attend business school with determination.

Why did you choose OSU Fisher? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Fisher MBA has many nice programs and the most prestigious professors specializing in supply chain management and operations, and I would like to change my career path to backend operations. Thus, I am glad to enroll in OSU Fisher Full Time MBA program.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2024?
Working in manufacturing industries for eight years, I have successfully and effectively held the roles of engineer, sales supervisor, marketing, and supply chain manager with diverse experience in global projects and cross-functional coordination. I’m more than willing to share my global experience and cross-disciplinary insight with the Class of 2024 and be the bridge between my connections in Asia and Fisher business school, having more cooperation worldwide in the future.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I wanted to be a tattoo designer/artist when I was 15 and designed a series of tattoos for myself. Yet, because my parents were conservative and I also did a great job on the national test in Taiwan, my parent pushed me to apply for engineering school. That’s why I have a bachelor’s degree in chemical and material engineering!

Post-MBA career interests:
Supply Chain Management, Operations, and Data Analysis

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Be yourself, explore yourself about what you want, and understand your values

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
Most students will be anxious and nervous during the process of application, including me. Even though I didn’t immerse myself in a negative mood for a long time, I still wished to skip it. To get rid of the negative mood, I always found my friends and mentor to talk about my application progress and ask for their recommendations. Communication and interaction are always the best way to release mental pressure.

–What is your initial impression of the OSU Fisher students/culture/community?
Energy is definitely the best word to describe my first impression of the OSU Fisher community! I’m surprised by the diversity of OSU. There are many clubs and associations, such as National Black and LGBTQ MBA associations, encouraging students to join this diverse community. Meanwhile, my classmates are from different countries or states with diverse backgrounds. I’m glad to be immersed in such a diverse community.

What is one thing you have learned about OSU Fisher that has surprised you?
OSU creates an amazing environment for students to let us learn together and learn from each other! That is really surprising me because, in Asia, most of the students just study and learn alone without mutual learning and teamwork, and I appreciate OSU Fisher creating this vibe in our school and really enjoy it.

What is one thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
For most international students, getting an internship at their dream company is definitely the most anxious because some companies only recruit international students for the role of engineer, but I am glad that OSU Fisher offers many resources to help students approach many companies willing to recruit international students or sponsor the visa.

What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
Starting my life in Columbus! Living in a new place with different culture and vibe always excites me because I could learn a lot of new things and knowledge. For example, I learn how to negotiate with car dealers through the process of investigating the market and buying a used car. The progress of adapting to a new environment is always joyful to me as well.
