We’re in for another edition of MBA Myth Busters: the series in which we review and disprove the popular myths surrounding graduate business education.

Myth: An MBA is not worth it for those who already have a successful career.

We have three reasons why that’s false!

The first is career advancement. Yes, you may have a successful career now, but what comes next? Even as a high-flying professional, the career that you are in right now may have some form of ceiling. If you would like to progress past that, an MBA program, with its leadership and management focus, could be for you.

The second is the world of business. The global business landscape is unlikely to look as it does now in ten, five, or even two years time. Keeping your skills sharp is a crucial step in keeping up with an evolving industry. An MBA program, with its focus on adaptability and versatility, prepares its graduates well for a world where technology and markets are shifting as we speak. The strategic thinking, leadership expertise and problem-solving ability cultivated in its students are evergreen skills, applicable throughout changing times and vital for navigating complex business challenges. And, perhaps most importantly, the global focus of many MBA programs aids with understanding business and its changes in the global context.

Third, and finally, an MBA offers a career-boosting and perspective-widening community that will prove useful to even the most seasoned and successful professionals. Those who complete business school leave with a support system and a network of peers who boast impressive backgrounds and varied perspectives. Having access to this community throughout your career is an invaluable resource, and one which you will be able to draw on for years to come.
