Undergraduate Institution and Major: Michigan State University, Finance
Pre-MBA Work Experience: Technical Project Manager / Senior Analyst, GovTech software, BS&A Software (10 years)
Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
I decided to pursue my MBA because I want to move into roles where I can drive strategy and innovation at a larger scale. After a decade of experience in software and data management, I felt I had built a strong technical and operational foundation, but wanted to expand my leadership toolkit in finance, supply chain, and organizational management.
Why did you choose Michigan State Broad College of Business? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Coming from a Broad undergrad, I was impressed with the programmatic and building changes that had taken place since my time there. The culture and community were a major draw, and my Michigan State roots have opened doors for engagement with the University. Broad’s strength in both supply chain and finance aligned directly with my interests.
What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2027?
A blend of experience in tech, finance, real estate, and travel paired with an owner’s mindset gives me a unique perspective in my cohort.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I was a Squad Leader in the Michigan State Marching Band during my undergrad and marched in the Rose Parade. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that taught me a lot about teamwork and leadership under pressure.
Post-MBA career interests:
I am interested in working with talented, passionate people. Finance (asset management, investment banking), consulting, or tech seem to have the highest concentrations of those people.
Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Attend events and interviews in person. It helped me understand programs better and stand out.
–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
Apply Early. If I could do it again, I would apply in round 1.
–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
Probably standardized testing. For a while it took up quite a bit of my brain space, but setting aside time, and scheduling tight timelines helped me get through it.
What is your initial impression of the Michigan Broad students/culture/community?
Supportive, welcoming, and collaborative. Everyone I’ve met has been genuinely interested in building each other up, not just competing for opportunities. A special thanks to Kara, Kate, and Beth in admissions and Pam & Penni in our Career Center.
What student organizations have you joined/are you hoping to join and why?
MBA Finance Association, MBAA, MBA Women’s Association. We are a tight-knit group and joining the organizations is another way we all support each other through advice and engagement.
What is one thing you have learned about Michigan State Broad that has surprised you?
The level of alumni engagement. I expected a strong network, but I’ve been impressed at how quickly alumni are willing to connect, share advice, and open doors.
What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
Recruiting, networking, and events. I have met so many incredible people through pre-MBA events and conferences, and I am looking forward to continuing that trend.
