It’s time to meet the new MBA Class of 2027 at New York University’s Stern School of Business (NYU Stern) with a look at the class profile.
Last year, out of 4,550 applicants, Stern admitted 1,141 and arrived at a class size of 352. This year, Stern saw a four percent increase in application volume. Out of 4,933 applicants, Stern admitted 1,161 (a 24% acceptance rate) and 336 enrolled this fall.

Diversity and Representation
Women make up 45 percent of new NYU MBA students, nearly matching last year’s 47 percent. Forty-three percent have international citizenship, representing 43 countries altogether. This represents a three percent increase over last year’s class.
Forty-five percent of U.S. students and permanent residents identify as U.S. minorities and 18 percent as underrepresented. Under Federal reporting guidelines, nearly a quarter (24 percent) identify as Asian American. Thirteen percent reported as Hispanic/Latino and five percent as African American/Black. Four percent of the new class identify as multi-race.
The number of U.S. military veterans and active-duty members lands at nine percent of the class. Ten percent of the new class identify as members of the LBGTQ+ community.

NYU Stern offers applicants a variety of entrance exams to take. While most (39 percent) still opted to take the GMAT, 27 percent took the GRE. Six percent took the Executive Assessment and five percent submitted MCAT/LSAT/DAT scores. Seven percent of candidates were eligible for the NYU test waiver, and 16 percent secured a test waiver.
The Stern MBA Class of 2027’s average GMAT (10th edition) landed at 737, a record high for the school. For those who submitted GMAT (Focus) scores, the average landed at 682. Regarding GRE scores, test takers reported average scores of 163 in the Verbal section and 164 in the Quant section.

Academic and Professional Background
During their undergraduate years, Stern MBAs averaged a GPA of 3.64, matching last year’s class. Thirty percent had earned business degrees and 25 percent had studied engineering/math/science. Economics majors make up 19 percent of the class, social sciences 16 percent, and humanities/art/other disciplines 10 percent.

The average work experience for the class is 5.1 years, based on the 98 percent of students matriculating with work experience. Thirty-one percent of students came from the financial services industry and 15 percent from consulting. Eight percent had worked in the tech industry. Six percent brought work experience from media/entertainment. Rounding out the top five pre-MBA industries, five percent come from military/government roles.
