The Yale School of Management welcomed 367 new students to its MBA Class of 2027 this August, a 5% increase in class size over last year.
Academic and Professional Achievements
Seventeen percent of the new Yale SOM class were the first in their families to earn a college degree. During their undergraduate years, the MBA Class of 2027 landed a median GPA of 3.69. About a third of students, 32 percent, hold a degree in a STEM discipline. Twenty-nine percent had majored in business followed by 20 percent in humanities/social sciences. Another 18 percent hold bachelor’s degrees in economics.

Forty-seven percent of incoming students submitted GRE scores. Their median Verbal score landed at 163, and the median Quant score came in at 166, nearly matching last year’s GRE stats.
Given the changes to the GMAT, Yale SOM broke down the incoming class’s scores by test. Those who submitted the GMAT (10th edition) scores reported worked out to a median score of 740, with the middle 80 percent of scores coming in between 691 and 760. For the candidates who submitted GMAT (Focus) scores, their median landed at 675.

A Diverse Cohort
The Yale MBA class profile reflects a wide range of human experience. Forty-four percent of the MBA Class of 2027 are women, a five percent increase over last year. Fifty-six percent identify as students of color, matching last year, and 15 percent as underrepresented U.S. minorities. Based on federal guidelines, 36 percent report as Asian American and 10 percent as Hispanic/Latinx. Six percent each identify as Black/African American or multi-race.
Forty-one percent, a seven percent dip from last yar, are international students representing 47 countries all together. Thirteen percent of the class identifies as LGBTQ+.
