Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
I made the decision to attend business school after spending a great deal of time reflecting on where I wanted my career to go and what kind of impact I ultimately want to have. While I had developed valuable experience in my previous positions, I knew that I wanted to pivot functions. I decided to attend business school to fill in the gaps in my skills in order to successfully achieve this. Business school is also a valuable opportunity for personal growth, not just professional development. I saw it as a chance to step outside of my comfort zone, build confidence in new areas, and surround myself with peers and mentors who would challenge and support me.
Why did you choose UCLA Anderson? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Several factors influenced my decision of where to attend. I wanted a school that offered a high-quality education where I could expand my skillset, and Anderson stood out in this regard. The combination of the quality and range courses on offer, and outstanding faculty made it clear that I would have the opportunity to learn a great deal in the classroom.
Equally important, I wanted a school where learning extended beyond the classroom. The diversity of backgrounds among students is something that really attracted me to Anderson. There are countless opportunities to gain new perspectives and learn from my peers. I was also drawn to the community and culture of shared success at Anderson. I wanted to attend a school that aligned with my values, and Anderson became a clear choice.
What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2027?
It’s a tough question, but I think my international perspective combined with my familiarity with the U.S. is something I can bring to the Class of 2027. I was born and raised in Ireland but have spent a great deal of time in the U.S. visiting family, which gives me a unique lens on cultural and business differences.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I am fluent in Irish. I completed most of my schooling up until undergrad entirely through Irish and often speak it with family. It is considered an endangered language, but it’s making a comeback and gaining popularity, and I love being a part of that!
Post-MBA career interests:
I plan to pivot into a more marketing focused role.
Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Visiting the schools I was interested in and speaking with students! It was a really important part of my application process and made it clear to me that Anderson was where I wanted to be.
–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I wasn’t able to attend A-Days, so I would definitely make it a point to go if I could do it again.
–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
Overthinking after submitting my applications. Once they are submitted, it is out of your hands, and you have to trust that the hard work you put in will pay off. I got through it by reminding myself that what’s meant to be will be. Staying busy with work and spending time with friends and family also helped me stay distracted!
What is your initial impression of the UCLA Anderson students/culture/community?
I am constantly impressed by my peers. Everyone is so intelligent and accomplished, and there is such a wide array of incredible backgrounds and future goals. It is such a welcoming community, and everybody really shares that value of shared success.
What student organizations have you joined/are you hoping to join and why?
I am really excited to serve as a director in the Admissions Ambassador Corp (AAC)! I have also joined identity clubs, including the European Business Association (EBA) and Women’s Business Connection (WBC), as well as professional clubs like the Marketing Association (MA), Sports Business Association (SBA), and Entertainment Management Association (EMA). The clubs at Anderson offer valuable professional experiences, from guest speakers to networking. They also provide a great chance to connect with peers outside of the classroom!
What is one thing you have learned about UCLA Anderson that has surprised you?
How willing your classmates, second years, staff, and alumni are to connect with you! There are so many people willing to share information and offer guidance, all you have to do is ask.
What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
I am really excited to continue exploring LA! There are always so many exciting things happening here, both on and off campus.
