With a background in information systems and technology management, Mitra has held roles in leadership, teaching, and research. He’s an expert in business analytics, information security management, online consumer search, IT governance and platform ecosystems. He earned a Bachelor of Technology in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India, and a PhD from the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa.

Mitra spent 27 years at Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business — most recently as senior associate dean of programs and senior associate dean of faculty and research — before moving on to Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida, where he is currently dean.

At Florida Warrington, Mitra is credited with improving revenue, program and enrollment growth, expanding philanthropic efforts, and creating more opportunities for working professionals through new online master’s degree programs and two new campus locations. His initiatives have enhanced the school’s undergraduate program and made Warrington a leader in AI and analytics education.

Quoted in Emory University’s press release, Mitra says about his appointment, “Goizueta has a stellar reputation, a long history of research and program excellence, and is located in the most dynamic city and region in the country. I believe it can be one of the best business schools in the world, and I am excited to be part of its future.”
