Wharton MBA Admissions Interview Questions: Round 1 / 2nd Year Student / On-Campus

As other candidates have mentioned before, the on-campus Wharton interview is a blind interview and very straightforward (no surprise questions). My interviewer was very complimentary and conversational. I started off describing my current job and walked the interviewer through my resume, and answered how Wharton fit into my goals and got into some good detail about my future goals. We had some back and forth dialog (the student described his background).

He chose three of the five questions listed in the previous posts (see 141). Specifically:

  • Tell me about a time when a project did not succeed. How did your teammates initially react? What will you do differently to change the outcome?
  • Tell me about a time when you had to negotiate or convince someone to change their mind. Please provide specifics on what you thought and did and how the other person reacted.
  • Tell me about a time that you managed someone younger than you. How did that person react to you? How did you manage the relationship?

We also discussed how on learning teams and group projects, there are often differing views on how to approach a given project, so the interviewer wanted to know how I convince others to go with my point of view.

We started the interview early, so we spoke for 45 minutes. The student took notes throughout the interview, particularly for the behavioral questions. I asked the interviewer a few questions about his experience at Wharton to cap off the interview.

Thanks to previous posters for the information–extremely helpful for my preparation. Good luck to all!
