Columbia Business School MBA Interview Questions & Report: J-Term / Alumnus / Off-campus

Published: March 6, 2019
Image for Columbia Business School MBA Interview Questions & Report: J-Term / Alumnus / Off-campus

My Columbia Business School interview was in a coffee shop with an Alumnus that graduated MBA 2018. The atmosphere was relaxed but a bit noisy.

Questions

  1. Why MBA
  2. Why now
  3. What happens if you don’t get into Columbia
  4. Walk me through your resume.
  5. How will I engage with the Columbia community, what clubs I would join.
  6. Challenges I face during work.

Interviewer seemed disengaged and didn’t know much about Columbia’s “recruiting” events for prospective students. Also didn’t know much about the Healthcare program though she was a part of it.

Advice

Read cues and notice when you are oversharing / too enthusiastic and need to back off.

INSEAD MBA Interview Questions & Report: Round 2 / Alumnus / Zoom
There were two alumni interviews, both one-hour long. While overall the interviewers were friendly, they did ask a couple of follow-up questions, specifically on my post-MBA goals. One of the interviewers was more stern while the other was more relaxed. The following are the questions asked: 1. Tell me about yourself. 2. What decisions did you take leading up to your first job? (e.g., undergrad major, internships) What influenced those decisions? 3. Why did you enroll in your first job? Describe a sample project. 4. Why MBA? Why now? 5. Post-MBA goals? (I got follow-ups on Read more

It was a short 30-min to the point interview. The interviewer didn’t have any follow-ups to my questions. He was quite friendly. I was asked the following questions: 1. Why now? 4. What will you contribute to the Yale community? 5. Why was the quote you submitted meaningful to you? 6. Leadership style? 7. Who is your mentor and why? 8.
