Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
I decided to attend business school because I had only ever worked at one company, and I knew I needed to step outside my comfort zone to avoid becoming stagnant. Business school gave me the chance to revisit the fundamentals while also reinforcing the skills I had developed through years of hands-on experience.
Why did you choose the Flex MBA at Georgetown McDonough? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
I chose the Flex MBA program at Georgetown McDonough because a few of my coworkers at Nestlé were in the Flex and EMBA programs, and they all had great things to say about the university and the people. Hearing that kind of consistency from both current students and alumni really stood out to me, and it was the main reason I chose to apply only to Georgetown.
Tell us about your experience with the Flex MBA program thus far.
I’m heading into my last semester in the Flex MBA program and have met some really amazing people along the way. I got lucky finding a great group of friends during Welcome Week, and we’ve stayed close ever since! Surprisingly, I ended up really enjoying statistics and finance, two of my toughest subjects in undergrad, thanks to the practical, Excel-based approach that let me apply what I was learning to my job. Balancing a heavy course load with challenging work situations wasn’t always easy, but I’m definitely proud of how far I’ve come.
What resources, specifically, has the Flex MBA provided you in regards to pivoting your career as well as for your job search?
I had an amazing Career Advisor who was incredibly supportive during my career pivot. She connected me with alumni, shared helpful resources, and coached me through the negotiation process for my job offer. On top of that, the variety of topics we covered in our core classes helped me think beyond the supply chain lens, both during interviews and as I got up to speed in my new role.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I always tell friends considering a Flex MBA to really think about what they want to get out of the program. It’s a big investment, both financially and in terms of time, and it does require some tradeoffs. That’s why it’s so important to think about whether you’re in the right season of your life to commit to something that intense.
